Should I run the hot water heater off of electricity or gas when I park it in a campground?

Really that's a personal choice. We use gas to heat water because it leaves about 11 amps of current always available for other things like the DW's hair dryer, the electric kettle and toaster. There are those who run the HW on electric because they already paid forthe electricity. Unfortunately, those same people complain that there main breaker has tripped because the DW was using her hair dryer and the A/C was going and the microwave was heating water for coffee. Unless you have a 50A service in your trailer, you'll need to utilize all your energy sources to get the most out of them.

Agreed. When we are on 30 amp, we really need to pay attention to what we are doing to try and avoid tripping the breaker. We have a pretty good system, but it still happens from time to time. That said, I run the water heater on electric almost all the time. Switch off when other power demands are high. Run both at the same time to get cold water hot faster when we first arrive, but that could all be in my head too!

I generaly run mine on electric. With the 50 amp service in the 30skp I have not had any problems with breakers. I generaly turn it off once we have showered in the morning and the water will stay hot the rest of the day. Turn it back on in the morning when I first get up before I have coffee that way it is hot for showers and cleanup.

I run mine on both...water heater recovers a lot quicker. I have not had the issue of tripping circuits since I separated them all out two years ago. But again, it is personal choice.
