I want to start a new thread about nothing, and let it run...

I coached people to take a 30-year mortgage but pay the 15-year payments. If they had an instance like your aunt's, they could fall back to the 30-year payment for a while.

But

I too converted my 30-year mortgage to a 15-year mortgage as a forced-placed plan I could not avoid.

It's a world of decisions out there.

😅 I was smart enough even at 19 years old that when a car salesman asked "what do you want your payment to be?" my answer was "The total amount we agreed on divided by the number of payments I'm willing to pay". It's astounding how many parents don't teach their kids BASIC financial math.

It goes like this:

What do you want your payment to be?
$200
Up to?
$230
But not more than?
$250.
If that can't be done, But I get it to $275 where will you go on your first vacation in your new car?
Oh, we'll go to see my mom four states away.

up to, but not more than)

I felt the same way

It works in almost any argument or haggle)

My math was way off and i had to buy the used coupe i drive instead of the new wagon i wanted...
I'll have them get the keys to your trade so you can go on home.
Wait!
Why?
What will our payments really be?
$320 with a 7 year warranty.
I thought it had a one year?
No it'll have a 7 year so you dont have to worry about saving for major repairs. Let me have your driver's license, and who is your insurance with?
(This is called
customer's price and payment will be there in print but my accessory line will be there too)
Then if their credit is great you put them in a lease at $250(yeah! payment is lower than he told us!)and dealer swallows almost the entire residual as profit.

Of course a different tack is needed with pipe smokers wearing corduroy jackets.

And for bk folk

House, car, horse, church, garage sale, it's all just an auction with a reserve.
It all sells the same...by mirroring your target.

Having many different vocabulary facades and associated knowledge pays well.

We see it here every day.

Like how compound interest adds a very large percentage to the total of payments.
You bought the car for $25,000
But you paid $34,000 on that 8 year 8% car loan.

12,000 car
12% interest
Is $18,000 over 60 months.

Chateau wouldn't be buying a car from anyone i know.
Tax and license alone are 12%+- added costs.

And semi-related:
We're not all fico heroes so that 12% could really be 19.91 and require 60% down.
The rates you find (and someone here will quote as gospel) are Not for 90% of people.

EXACTLY! BTW... the second car I bought (at 19) was somewhere between 3k and $3,200... I don't remember exactly, but I was establishing credit. 36 payments of $100.08. So I paid about $500 for establishing credit as a 19 year old kid.

Never mix trade value with the new purchase.
Always know the EXACT out the door price as if it is a cash deal.
Never get sucked in by the small talk. Be friendly and courteous... but never forget your making a purchase... not making a friend.

Car dealerships today lose money on cash sales... there's more profit in financing kick-backs than on dealer cost plus markup. This is what happens when you build an economy based on credit.

You are / were a professional, I think I would advise others (that I did not view as mentally capable) to simply pay to reduce the principal the best they can. But they will surely fail and not be consistent. For me, a no frills guy, highly determined, not afraid of being different; I wanted the decision to pay early to NOT be an option for me. I had to live and plan around the new rate for 15 years. 4 years later we owned our house. The windfall of no house payments for years and years was catalyst for me to save more money, buy more stocks and the rest has been history. I buy what I need when I want and I don't care what any given sales manager / finance manager has to pitch to me. I don't own a TMC today, because I did not care to succumb to the Finance Manager of one of TMC largest resellers. I didn't care how many 100s of RVs they sold a month and how it was done, I only cared about the one that I may have bought. It was my terms or highway.

It depends on how the Buyer plays the dealership. I contend that every cash deal I have made on any vehicle the dealership made money and nice profit. Buy at the end of a month, when new inventory arrives, and/or at the end of a year. There is something called cash flow. If the Dealer is not interested in turning their inventory, the product that they are selling will never be priced for a savvy buyer to buy.

I hope not to offend anyone, but who were all of those people buying new cars / RVs at not only MSRP, but in some cases 10% more than MSRP?

Too much talk, I just tell them I want my payment to be $110,000 plus tax title and license with a condition that you pre-notify the Finance Manager that I will NOT buy any add-on offer or upgrade; and I don't care to listen to the sales pitches, if they insist to make me formally sign to reject every offer understand I will do so with a great deal of billergerence. Note: If they insist to pitch me an extended warranty, the deal is off. Otherwise, when can I get the keys and drive home?

My Pacifica deal:
I said I was ok with the price but I want toys added,
they drove the kr trade,
They gave me just under $3,000 more than i wanted for my king ranch trade,
The wash guys were mad at sales so that took an hour and they stole the floor mats.

Two hours.

I'm in and out.

My favorite auto purchase story, it tells you all you may need to know about my personality.

At the time I drove a 1998 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer, I had been thinking about a new one. Three times, I have bought the same vehicle twice.

But one day we driving west bound on Airport Freeway in Irving Texas en route to take the kids to 6 Flags over Texas. No tickets, but we had coke cans. Anyway, it started to rain very hard out of nowhere. It was hard I took the very next exit. It happened to be a Westway Ford Dealership on the right. I thought why blow the day, it would be a good time to see the brand new 2005 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer.

So when we pulled up and went inside a Salesman said could he help me. I told him I wanted to know if they had a Black 2005 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer on the lot? He said okay and wanted me to come sit down. I told him I didn't want to sit down. I then explained to him briefly that we were on a trip with Kids and the rain had us stop. I also gave him my usual warning of disdain for the auto sales process, and that I was only stopping to see if they had the vehicle I asked about. I told him what you have been taught will probably irritate the **** out of me. So he calmly says okay, no worries I will make it simple for you; so I said Thank you. He then asked for my Drivers License. :nonono: I looked at my wife and she knew what was coming, she said come on kids; so I turn around and we walked out the Dealership, the rain had stopped. The sales guy ran out and cut me off from getting into my vehicle saying why was I leaving etc etc. I calmly asked would he move so I could leave. He didn't, knowing I was on private property, I asked my wife to call the Police, she did... at that point what turned out to be the Sales Manager came out as he was obviously alerted that something serious was about to go down. The Sales Manager has the Salesman go inside. He then calmly asked me what the issue was and I told him. He apologized for Salesman and said based on what I had asked; the Salesman should have directed me to the Internet Sales department. In 2005, I have never heard of that. He said if we call the Police back and just give him 10 minutes they will do exactly what we want. My wife call Irving PD back and explained what happened, we got the okay and we went back inside. The Sales Manager took us to a office in the back and he said something to the guy working back there. All I knew is that guy got on his computer not saying a word to us. He then said yes with glee.... we have one 2005, Black Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer. He then told me the pricing etc. I asked could we see it. They went and got it and it looked nice (duh...it was brand new), I told him my offer was $35,000 and I could buy right now. They approved it and we bought it, drove it home about an hour later. I had a cashiers check made from a local bank. The Sales Manager threw in some trinket stuff for good measures. We never saw the Salesman after the confrontation in the parking lot.

It doesn't have to be that hard. FWIW, I have not bought from a Ford dealership since. Just Lincoln, Cadillac and WBGO.

Wheelwells installed AGAIN.
They'll come out again when I swap out my headlights.

Pics show what you need to know to do the same.
Some folks here have said newer axis/Vegas has fenderwells...
But
We also had someone swear how hard they looked over EVERY inch, that indeed, they had no front shocks from the factory.🤦‍♀️. When called out, they doubled down.

Ask here in this thread with questions.
It's just self tappers and some metal strap you can buy at any hardware store.

Asked a friend that works at Thor, "How many people work in quality control?"
He said less than half of them.

the above fictional tale is told as an item of humor.

I’ve tried looking for wheel well inserts to fit around the rear dual wheels for our 2018 E350 Ford / Thor 4 winds 23U, but haven’t found anything, where would you look for them, perhaps they don’t exist? On our rig there are mud flaps behind the duals but nothing in front, and besides exposed wires dangling ( now zip tied securely ) there is a lot of other stuff exposed to tire spray and road crap and potential tire parts from a blow out, any suggestions for a fix?

For my rear I'm using 1967 Pontiac executive front fender wells(because I already have them).
Very heavy metal liner will protect my black tank from blow out or tossing a rock.

I'd measure the rear compared to the front, then decide if your fronts will fit in the rear.

Today the plastic clip on my new fuel filter crapped out.
Located along the drivers side frame rail it proceeded to allow fuel to spray at 55psi through a 3/8"pipe until the truck stopped running.
Cranking the engine caused fuel at enough velocity to dig a hole in the roadside gravel.

The spousal unit happened to drive by where I was(across from Kaibab Lake on the 64 to the grand canyon.)
She went to town 4miles down the road,
Banged on the door of our mechanic who had put in the filter about 30 miles ago,
And a flat bed was on its way in moments.

A friend happened by, stopped, and gave us a ride to the Safeway that spousal unit was at.
Total time along-side the road: 12 minutes.

The zr2 blazer is in the shop.
Hopefully it's just a clip and not an entire fuel line.

Small town stuff.

We need the ability to nominate instant classic threads and posts. I am still laughing at the thread on Android Auto. Saying "Google Search" not once but twice was vintage until the OP told the ACE after a recommendation to look at the manual and the reply was the manual was useless, only to find out the manual had a large picture showing exactly what he was looking far. On another forum a poster was on a rant because he could not pump out the water from his 10 gal hot water tank because he had run out of freshwater. He felt he should have two water pumps one for hot water and one for cold. I don't believe he even understood the water was all coming from the same place :ROFLMAO: He claims he runs out of freshwater all the time. He never responded to my question of what size freshwater tank and gray tank he has. I have NEVER run out f freshwater. To me it is impossible to do unless I have a leak in my gray water tank. When my gray is 2/3 full, I dump whatever is in the black and the gray and refill with freshwater.
