Improving AC performance

I have not been happy with our AC performance at all. After reading the Another Bad Day with our Rushmore thread, I took a look at our duct work. Minimal space for air
flow. I actually have a light mounted under the duct at one point.
Also looks to me like the insulation above the duct is partially
collapsing the duct. Air grill housing protrudes into duct at least
1/4" if not farther.

I don't have a brochure that shows how the
duct runs, but after inspection I'm thinking two ducts. One runs to the
front ac, and the other seems to end in the bath. First thing I intend
to do is seal and insulate the return air plenum. Then I intend to
trim the grill housings to fit, and reseal. Next I am considering how
to support the duct so the insulation does not push the top down. First
thing that comes to mind is light schedule PVC pipe of the right size
in the center of the duct.

Any ideas? Thanks for any input

Hey Will, we have our Lincoln in the shop right now for a few warranty tweaks, one of them being the front AC. We do have a large picture window in our front living room to make it a bit of a challenge to cool when we are facing direct sun, but the duct work is definitely a huge part of the problem. With the vent open on the unit itself it cools just fine, however we can't hear ourselves think! We knowthe unitcools, it is a ducting issue. Wewere considering switching out theAC unit with a 15000 btu, but Dometic doesn't make a low pro.It will be interesting to see what they comeup with. Keep us updated. Robyn

I did a search on Dometic air distribution system. I used the model #. Its also looked to me that the ducting has been crushed down and or blocked on the door entrance side. Will try paste we site when I get on my lap top.

Hey Ramn4ver, Could you please share the Dometic site you found that information on? Thanks! Robyn

I did a google search on (dometic 541816A711JO)....my model #. comes up as a PDF file. it does help a little.
Went out and bought a 4 ft ladder. Will get a better look at venting this weekend.
