We have a F450 with an integrated break controller pulling our 36RL. Currently, we have the break controller set to 7.5 break gain. Our RV weighs 15800 lbs loaded. My question is - what is the right amount of gain to set it at?

I have the 3500 Chevy and that is where I have mine set. 7.5 gain seems to work good for me 8 seemed to pull harder on the truck to me. Ours is the FL and it weighed just under 14000 lbs dry on delivery. Not sure if there is a right or wrong but I try to get mine to work with the truck, meaning the 5er pulls just starts to pull on the truck. This way I don't look in the mirrors and see tire smoke because the 5ers tires are locked up.

Chuck,
I just fixed mine (bad disk pump). I have mine set at 6.5 now & it felt good (but not dramatic) all the way to Indiana.. Ever try yours in the 6s?

Glad to here you made it out there ok Mike. No I havent tried it in the 6's, But I will tomorrow. Hey how were the roads going out that way? Did you go out 80?

We took our integrated break controller down to 6.5 with maximum break peddle gain and proceeded from Buffalo, WY to Cody, WY using Route 16. Wow, crossing the mountain reroute to Yellowstone. Had it floored and could only get upto 40 miles an hour. The break gain seemed to be dragging us down going up, but helped going down the mountains. On the wayup, we averaged 4.9 mpg, but going down (which was as scary as going up - hairpin turns) we got 15.3 mpg , averaging 10.4 mpg. Lesson learned, set the break gain to a minimum going up and increase it going down. Other thing we noticed is that our transmission was working much harder than normal.Edited by: Adamsvr
