I know this question does not belong on this DRV thread...But maybe some of you could answer it for me...Why is it I see so many people that are nonresidents of South Dakota have motor homes tagged and registered in that state???:eek:fftopic::eek:fftopic:

You too can be a resident of South Dakota. Just travel to the state, spend the night, get a receipt from the campground, go to the SD tax office, fill out your paperwork, show your receipt, get your picture taken, turn in your old drivers license, get your new SD license, and wallah, you are a resident of South Dakota. It is a pretty easy process so I have heard.

I read that a lot of folks will form an LLC in that state and buy under that corporation..... sort of a tax dodge.

The LLC thing was very prevalent in Montana. I do not know if it still is or not.

Because we are fulltimers and we need to register our vehicles, get mail, vote and have a physical address. If we have sold our homes we need to be a resident of somewhere. SD, FL and TX allow us to establish residency but don't have to live there

Everyone must have a legal domicile. It is where your vehicles are registered, where you vote and where your drivers license is issued. As full-timers with no home and no ties to any particular state, we can pick where we want to declare our domicile.

Several states make it relatively easy to establish residency, and of those, SD, TX and FL have favorable tax laws. That's the reason you see so many SD vehicle registrations in campgrounds.

Check all three states and see which one fits you. SD fit our needs the best.

Where n MD are you from? I sold our home in Severna Park a couple of months ago.
