Just put a deposit on a 2012 RW 36RL and need advice.

This weekend I spent over an hour trying to help a gentleman in the park I'm in trying to get his TV to work with cable. He bought the coach from a dealer but they didn't give him any instruction on many of the systems. We never did get the TV to work, best I could figure is the cable from the outside was not connected to the inside or was faulty. The message here...try to test and understand EVERYTHING you can think of. Take a through PDI checklist and go through it while at the dealer before you sign any papers finalizing the deal.

As to Extended Warranties, don't just go with what the dealer is offering, check around with other opportunities, you might want to check with Wholesale Warrenties, http://www.wholesalewarranties.com, I haven't purchased on yet but these folks have given me the best price of any others I've tried.

Here is my thought on the PDI.

You could never test everything at the PDI, there just isn't enough time and chances are very good you aren't even equipped to test it all, nor would you think of it. The Dealer is obligated to fix whatever is broke, whether it is at the PDI or if you find it later.

Relax, look for obvious signs of damage that is hard to defend after you own it, listen to the instructions, pay the money, shake their hands, and drive it direct to a campground and start making a list. That way the little things can all get fixed with one return appointment.

I would not hesitate to pay for a rig that had a small list of IOU fixes that I spotted at the PDI.
 
We were lucky. Traded at Lazy Days in Florida so we had to move from our Montana to the RW. We were setup in their delivery lot with the Montana pulled in and the RW backed in next to it. We were there for 4 days while transferring our belongings, thus got to check everything out as we had a full water tank and 50 amp electric.
 
Several years ago we were in a park in Indiana, don't remember for sure which one., that was close to an RV dealer. Got to talking to a couple that had just pulled in and had people showing them how to set up. They had just bought the camper and the dealer put them up in the park for a couple days. Showed them how to set it up and use everything, then left them to get used to the unit. If they had any problems they couldn't handle they were to call the dealer and if it couldn't be handled over the phone the dealer would send somebody over. After a couple days, people from the dealer came over, helped them hook up, and covered anything they were unsure of. Now that is what I call customer service.
 
Nice...that is AWESOME customer service!!

I'm workamping in a park in Branson MO, Newell sends their new owners here for a couple of days after they pickup their new rigs to kick the wheels, when they leave here they go back to Newell for any issues to be resolved.
 
I just purchased a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually and talked to Layton Truck in Colorado Springs and he can get me a Curt 24,000# fifth wheel in about 3 days. I looked it up on the internet and there are good reviews on it. Head swivels both ways. Little over $1,000. installed.
Our Ram 3500 chassis-cab came in yesterday, and goes off tomorrow to be up fitted with a Knapheide low-profile utility bed. Our dealer has been talking with Reese, B&W and Curt, and Curt seems to have its act together to the point where they would say,"We have experience with this truck and body combination, and these are the parts you'll need." So we ordered the Q24 - all the pieces are in place now. I have full confidence in this hitch going in.
