Leaf Springs on 2013 Redwood

Has anyone had trouble with the leaf springs breaking on their Redwood 5th wheel? We replaced the leaf springs on the passenger side last year ( ruined two tires). Last night the leaf spring on the driver side had broken. Wondering if we should get heavier weight springs.

Where do they break? What is the weight of your trailer (from a scale)?

The trailer weight is 13,106 lbs. The spring broke on the top toward the front. We pull it with a 2012 Ford 350 Dually.

What model RW do you have? Many of the RWs have an empty shipping weight more than that. Our '12 36RL was just over 14K before we even put in the first paper plate, this current '16 MB was delivered at 15.5K.

Our model is RW 36RL. Yes that is the weight written down, so that's the empty weight I guess. Thanks.

Is that the scale trailer axle weight or are you saying that is the weight from the factory?

Over the past few years there's been several broken springs. I'd be on the phone talking with Redwood about the springs and asking them to replace the tires.

I was told many years ago with a cargo trailer when changing a leaf spring. You should always change both sides. Reason you are mixing the old and new strength of the leaf springs. The weaker will take even more abuse as the new one is stiffer / more rigid.

I am beginning to wonder if I should buy and carry a spare spring? Don't really want to carry four of them. If one breaks at least I could get back on the road pretty quick and maybe get back home where I could change out the entire set. Would hate to be stranded waiting for a spring. Are the front and back spring the same size? I have 7,000 pound springs on our 2013 36RE. Any one have part numbers?

Our 13, 36RE scaled 15,500 loaded. 12,200 on the axles. So far with a trip to the Outer Banks and 3 round trips to FL, everything is good. I won't be back in South Carolina anytime soon. Their interstates are terrible. That's what that cheap gas gets you.

We have a Blackwood BW36RL. Last week end we had a spring bracket break on the rear driver spring. My warranty was up April 11. When I contacted Crossroads they didn't seem to be concerned about safety. That was may main reason for contacting them.

Our 2013 36RE scaled 15,060 total with 11,740 on the axles.

The spring pack is a common one, and most spring shops will have them in stock. (ask me how I know) Replace both spring packs on the axle. Always use new shackles.

broken leaf spring

didn't realize the kind of leaf spring we needed to replace broken one for our 2014 36rl was going to be very difficult to locate! We were stuck for two days at a WY rural RV park after ordering one sent overnight from etrailer.com and hired a local mechanic. Plan to replace all when we get to our long term destination. We will probably carry a couple extras with us in the future!

My 2013 RL leaf springs were flat. Had them reformed and added 2 extra springs per set. Raised the coach back to 13' 4". My coach total loaded weight 16,900 #'s.
