I have almost had it with links on this forum not working unless you log in. I rarely log in and only to post a reply, so the script used here is truly b/s. iRV2 or the other forum sites (I did not check ALL of them) do not have this problem, why here?

So to test this, I am going to post the same link in a few different ways.

(Just pasted in) https://www.amazon.com/DC-HOUSE-Upg...hild=1&keywords=rv+pump&qid=1625686285&sr=8-8

(Using "Insert link) https://www.amazon.com/DC-HOUSE-Upg...hild=1&keywords=rv+pump&qid=1625686285&sr=8-8

(Hiding Link)

(Link w/o https://) www.amazon.com/DC-HOUSE-Upgrade-Diaphragm-Pressure/dp/B08LVKCZPY/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=rv+pump&qid=1625686285&sr=8-8
EDIT: This link was pasted w/o h t t p s:// and the forum automatically inserted h t t p s:// (I put the spaces in)

Now to log out and complete my test.... comments?

Just as I suspected, they ALL failed to open a page, all I got was "page not found!"

Any one else have this problem?

I use Firefox on Linux, will try Chromium

Why not just log in?
It takes almost no time at all...
It is all about being tracked and such. I am anal about 'being watched' and spied upon.
I could ask the same on why the forum gurus have to do this to the links, that affects EVERYBODY.

Unfortunately you are tracked by the internet protocol every time and on each and every device you have, nothing you can do about it

It prevents - to some degree - bots from spamming. I could easily use a script to make http requests and robo-post on insecure forums. By having an account and logging in, the moderators have a way of shutting you down, and can tell if you're legit... or a spam bot.

everyday stroke you make that goes though the internet is captured and has been for years. not want tracked? do nothing through cell, internet, credit card, banking: live in a tent.

Same result. NG unless logged in. Wouldn't expect the last one to work unless copy/pasted from ')' on.

This is happening as a result of the redirect - the forum warning you are leaving the site for an external address.

Chromium [MS EDGE Version 91.0.864.64 (Official build) (64-bit)]

I do understand and would use the copy/paste to open the link w/o logging in.

Not always, some links, after a 10 sec. delay, will take you to the 'redirect page' and I could live with that, it is the majority that just give the "Page not found!" page. :-/
Trying to copy/paste the address when right clicking does no good either... I have tried MANY ways to do that and they have jumbled up the link real bad, will not work.
I have tried many of the other RVLife forums and they do not seem to manipulate the links, just the Thor forum does this.

Thanks for the requested reply!

I have not seen "Janet - The Administrator" chime in yet. :)

Log in, the way it’s designed. Other forums operate the same way.
As I mentioned earlier, THIS site (Thor Forums) of all the RVLife forums seems to be the only that manipulates the links... Just asking for a understandable reason why. I have seen a few posts in the past where readers ask why the posted link "does not work". Never an explanation.

I agree: Passers-by; shouldn't get a free ride...
The only reason you could be saying this Bob is cuz you have shares in UTube. I have NOT seen anyone else posting the number of vids as you.... not saying it is bad, but UTube must luv ya!!

EDIT: Oh, BTW, I have NEVER had an issue going to the UTube site that is posted, those links ALWAYS work.... they just have a novel way of tracking what a person watches. So I generally stay away from those.

I am not talking about posting, just wanting to see what link the poster had posted... w/o logging in.

 "Just because you're paranoid: it doesn't mean that they're NOT out to get you..." :whistling:
The song quote you have in yer Sig line states "I can reach any Star,
I've got Faith: Faith of the heart."
Also in the song is this line, "And they're not gonna hold me down no more
No, they're not gonna hold me down
"
Which I can take as IF you allow sites like Google or UTubes to track yer surfing habits, they will only show adverts, news links or general web pages of what they want you to see.... it is very simple and THAT is what I try to "hide" from.
I know they track ME every time I turn on the cell phone or log into the computer or tablet, I can live with that cuz the only way out of that would be to live in a tent, cash-only basis too!

If you want to view them: you just have to decide that it's worth logging in
For the record: I have no connection with YouTube.
I just like their videos...
