Main awnings

My wife and I were wondering how well the main awning works and have you adjusted them. We ordered the slide main awning just to keep the sun out of the dining area. Are they very sensitive to wind? We have never auto ones before.

The main awning goes in and out...that's it
 
you can adjust the tilt by adjusting the each support arm, push the button in and retract the arm. We retracted both sides to the maximum to allow rain runoff. We do retract the awning when it is windy as it does not have a wind sensor.
 
You'll know when it's time to roll it in... the wind will balloon the canvas and the arms will compensate by design.
If you plan to be away from your trailer during the day you may want to retract it just in case the wind comes up while you're gone. I suppose you could anchor them down but that won't keep the canvas from flopping about.
 
The carefree travelr awning does not have a wind senser, they are adjustable manually, the awning on the slide as I understand it is the same as the main awning, and you cannot stake these awnings down, if you do the wind can still lift the fabric but if its staked down it can cause damage to the arms.
 
Thank you for your input. By the looks of the construction it would behoove you to stowe them when you are not there. We did order metal wrapped awnings. I don't know if that changes anything. Thanks again!
 
This information was given to me by my salesman that does require some serious thought. When you travel be sure you don't have anthying in cargo area that could move and bump the switches for the awnings , recently they had one that turned on the awing while the owner was traveling which caused the awning to get ripped off,,,Might want to find some kind of cover for the switches until they have a recall if they ever do
 
we had that same problem, fortunately I was following my wife (she drives the rig as she hates my driving) as she was taking our redwood to storage. I called her and she stopped, no harm done but I learned a lesson about loading the storage area. I am still looking for a cover to place over the switch to preclude recurrance.

We just found this today.......on it!
 
Was just discusing this with other campers at the campground I am staying in.
They have seen more awnings ripped across coaches in their time RVing and I had asked
about why they had theirs tied down. That discussion and this thread will have me considering some type of retrofit for a wind sensor. I would hate to come home to a mangled awning. I have showed them my switchin the sorage area and in the interim. I may have to start to stow it daily.

Has anyone ever heard of a wind sensor retrofit?
 
They do not make a wind sensor for the carefree traveler awning or any carefree awning for that matter.I know AE has there weather pro awning with the wind sensor but it is not very reliable. This is just another reasonwhy I am installing a carefree spirit awning instead of the factory awning. I ordered the spirit with beige acrylic fabric and an alumigaurd and with built in lighting. I will be using the powersource from the factory awning to power my built in lighting, should be real cool anda one of a kind.This is a much better option for us, this way we can stake the awning out and forget about it until winter.
So if any of you need a replacement awning I have a brand new one that was never installed on my coach.
 
Carefree has an upgrade called "Direct Response" which they describe as stowing the awning automatically when an adjustable amount of sustainedwind occurs. Read about it on-line. Anybody know about it or installed it?

this is a 110 volt system for the carefree Eclips awning it will not work on the traveler that is installed on the Redwood.
 
I stand corected this is Very New I will call and talk to my Carefree rep today, the pdf shows it to be a simple install from whatI just read. It looks like you will loose one of your control switches either the one inside or in the belly storge (your choice).
 
From the previous posts about shifting cargo deploying it while driving, it sounds the the basement switch should be disconnected anyway. Yikes -what an eye-opener...
