My Radio Is Missing Android Auto & Carplay

My Android/Car Play unit arrived today. Glad to get in 2 days, but nothing special to have pay prime to get.

Since it is almost freezing (52F) I decided to hook up in the house versus brave the elements ( light rain too) :whistling:

- 1st thing is it must have a 12v power source so I had to plug into my portable 120vac to 12vdc cigarette socket. It has a USB - C plug, I was wishing I could plug it direct to a 12v fuse, but I believe the cigarette socket doubles by also being the FM antenna, so the 12vdc socket is probably permanent.

- the unit was packed and powered up very fast, it looks very impressive and has nice weight. The Android Auto setup took me about 30 seconds and it works flawless. It worked and looked exactly as if I was in the Navigator

- It has nice on/off button. Automatically turns itself on/off. You can turn it off even when it has power.

- I used the aux cable to plugged into a portable bluetooth speaker and sound is awesome. I plan to use Bluetooth for audio when I get around to putting into RV.

- Dash cam already shows potential, my Rove Dash came days may be numbered or I may move the Dash came to Navigator and / or boat. It may come down to what I could sell it for.

Things that I wish were better

- The Superlink(mirror casting) does not stream YouTube or Netflix. But I think it is issue with copyright not the device? It does have Air drop so I have yet to dry to play a media file that is on my phone?

- It looks like the only way to disconnect the Android auto is by disconnecting on the phone?

- There support is a gmail email, so I may have to wait a few days to get all of questions before using it

- The rear camera does not record. It connects to a reverse signal so it knows when to display. I am not sure I want to use the reverse camera although I will have to see what it's quality at night looks like. If it is good, I may have to check if the new rear camera will work in the pioneer? If it does, I will need some type of extension cable because the rear of RV is 30 feet.

- When mirroring if you have a app that is portrait only like Victron Connect, it is a tiny look on screen because the 10" is only horizontal.

- I may still use my phone for the Victron App or if I really want to stream You Tube I can while Android Auto does the rest on 10" screen.

At $98, way too early feedback is it the best no brainer value I have seen in a long time.

Thanks Ace, you da man :thumb:

My $57 10.1" Walmart android 14 tablet arrived today.
I did a c to c connection with my phone and it downloaded all of my apps and passwords.
I disabled Gmail and message and yahoo so it wouldn't download months of back emails eveytime I use it. I took out my camera and gps stuff. No gps on this unit. It locates off of the wifi location.

No bloatware other than youtube kids and youtube music.
No NFL crap or installed games or those awful security programs.

It will live on a dresser running my water tank level app and MyRadar.

I left Torque and iExit and sygic and police scanner and all the rv apps in it so I can grab it, hotspot off of my phone, and toss it on the dash of the mommy van or rv.

Ultimately it's just a display for me.
The rv stuff is a bonus.

It's $59 today.

But wait...

Before I praise too much.

If I had purchased off ebay, there is good chance I could get this product for free or at worse an additional discount or refund. It does not appear the listing is accurately describing the product?

The listing says...

Upgraded Screen Mirroring Technology: Our 10.26-inch wireless carplay screen adopts the latest SUPERLINK technology, allowing you to mirror your phone or watch online videos while keeping your phone’s screen off. This carplay screen for car features a 1600*600P touch screen, making it perfect for long trips. Sync movies, YouTube, TikTok, Netflix, and GPS for a high-definition large-screen video experience.

Thus far I am unable to sync youtube or Netflix, presumably copyright laws? I will note tha it does not say YouTubeTV so I will have to move that all my list. I will try more with YouTube may it is video specific on YouTube?

With Amazon, if you can prove the above, your only recourse is a full return with refund. The latter is not likely from me because I did not buy it to watch YouTube / TV or Netflix, but I did think I could. It is still a bargain, but for what I want; but I hate deception.

I took mine to the MH yesterday (It's 150 miles from home at the MIL's house). I'm not sure how I'll mount mine. I looked at it but I'm gonna need to open the front curtains to make sure I don't obstruct any driving view. I'll try to remember to try streaming YT & Netflix when I'm down there next Wednesday.

I run torque on mine and it sits in the instrument housing over the factory gauges.
I can swipe and get any app I have open.

My other ones mount from overhead.

It runs YouTube okay

YouTubeTV & Netflix will not show video on full screen. I am getting the audio.

Apparently it is suppose to work with Netflix & YouTubeTV so I think it will be fine eventually. i.e. Today I uninstall and download a new version of the EveLink software and it has some specific Lab feature to work with them both. I don't think it is industrialized yet, thus it is called a Lab. I will report the same to see where it goes.

Somehow I always end up talking to the Support team on these kinds of products, let's see if I get a developer involved with what I am seeing this time.

Product is otherwise perfect so far. I did find a 15ft extended cable so I could hook up the rear camera if I want to. Not there yet. I kind of like the idea I have now where if I have my toad, or duck approved towed I can set the OEM Pioneer to display the OEM rear camera full time while I use my new Android auto receiver to do everything else. I got more to think on when it comes to rear camera, but here is the extension.

I do exactly this. I replaced the stinky Axxera with an old Pioneer DVD head unit that I had. It has backup camera and aux in capability. I then bought a standalone 10 inch Android auto capable device that's sits on the dash. Routed it's audio to my head unit. It gives me the ability to still see the backup camera and have a dedicated GPS screen. I use a combination of R life and Google Maps for Navigation. I have a Windsport 34J, so obviously weight, height, and width is a concern at times. Google Map have tried to navigate me down roads with weight restrictions, a few times. So I now use RV Life to both plan my route first, and as a secondary GPS next to Google Maps.

I use a Carpuride W903 in my 2018 Tuscany and 2015 Wrangler. This unit connects to the vehicle via bluetooth as long as my phone is close by. I use it mostly for Waze and Spotify. It operates with Android Auto or Apple Carplay. Price is around $200 on Amazon depending if you get the backup camera option.

Can I ask why you wired the Aux for Audio to the Head unit? Doesn't that mean you have to have the Pioneer in Aux Mode as well for the playback?

Mine is new, but I am using the Bluetooth mode on the OEM Pioneer, so my phone connects to it and the Android Auto at the same time, but via Wifi.

My setup is below. I still have my Garman RV890, it does things to supplement Waze but maybe not worth the costs. I like with the Bluetooth audio mode, you can read what is playing on multiple displays. I also have wireless steering wheel remote and thus far it is working. Being able to live stream my YoutubeTV is going to be a big bonus if they get it to work.

I also like that side cameras and rear display will not take away from the primary Android screen.

Also pictured is my RVi Command Center ( my sensors are not installed thus the ? marks)

See link above to amazon for unit I bought, it was $98 and it has dash cam & rear camera. There is $11 15 foot extension cable to buy. Not sure I will need because I like OEM back up for now.

On the X-Bay system I have, the phone has to be connected to the Dash radio via bluetooth like normal so the phone has to stay within range of the radio. My android device wireless connect via WiFi to the Phone. I think when you set the Android device for Bluetooth audio, it just allows the Bluetooth audio to go direct from phone to Dash radio

Nice stuff. I got rid of my clutter. Have a TST TPMS and a I-Pad. I-Pad has WAYS, Maps, Google Maps, and Serious Radio. The I-Pad and my I-Phone both connected, when driving, through the Verizon Hot Spot. When going where I have been before I just use WAYS. If WAYS doesn't seem correct, I will switch to maps, or Google Maps. All audio is BT to my JBL which sits on the dash. Why JBL, I had it and sounds a ton better than the OEM speakers. I can't see spending any money on the OEM radio and speakers when what I have will do. But if I had to make a change, This stuff sound great.

I am curious as to what circumstances may occur that make you believe that Waze may not be correct?

I always have Waze and Garmin keyed in for the exact same destination and generally they will be the same but when they differ I have experimented taking both over the other and thus far every time I ignore Waze and follow Garmin ( even with Live Traffic) I get burned. Garmin perceived better routing for RV is a joke. I remember being in Little Rock at football game and the Interstate was about 1/2 mile away, you could see it, but Garmin's Live Traffic had me take a side road through downtown LR. I assume it was to divert traffic, but it was more traffic, worse there were low hanging trees on that route that I had to scrape because of the traffic. I never follow Garmin RV890 over Waze bridges be damn. But Garmin does so many other thing ad provides a wealth of information that I just feel better educated on my route so I do use Garmin. I like knowing exactly where I am, and what exits are next, next rest stop etc. at a glance.

It is not shown in the screen of the RVi Command Center but when I have the towed it will additionally show me the status of the brakes in the towed. I can tell if it is stopping softly or hard. I can also press a button on the command center to make it stop even harder, never had a need to but it is nice.

I have still not figured out what to do with my Samsung Galaxy phone? It use to be on dash as well for Waze. It will have to be somewhere plugged in, because it is feeding the Carplay / Android Auto screens.

I currently connect my phone to power and use it separately for maps and other traveling apps simply because the Android Auto on the head unit doesn't play very well with the cameras. This seems like it could be a good way to allow me to have nothing but camera on the built-in unit. I'll investigate it after Christmas. I'm not allowed to buy "anything" electronic in December. :)

The cheap tablet i linked in a post above supposedly does miracast and other wireless casting.
If it does I'll use it as such as an overhead display with an in reach phone as a controller.

I don't what I'd use this for as Iexit and such require almost no manipulation but I'll see if this is a viable thing or just a thing thing.
I guess i can put all of my battery stuff on it but battery stuff is all working and I don't care much to look at the apps except as a curiosity.

Guess who contacted me today. X-Bay development team said they have been trying to get the new version of Evelink to work with YouTubeTV & Netflix, but are seeing the same issue as I reported. The are saying that in speaking with YouTubeTV and Netflix, both have streaming blocked unless you have a TV box or the App. They said they will have to update their listing. In the meantime I am getting a credit so I am even happier :thumb:

It has been otherwise just awesome. I got a 40" Samsung right behind me if I must stream, or I can use my Samsung Galaxy phone. It is rare I need to stream while driving so it is not a biggee for me.

@ae5573t My HU does not have Bluetooth, it was an extra add on module at the time. So AUX is the only way to get audio, but I can overlay video while in Aux mode, so I have my rear camera (and side camera when turning) on all of the time.

Wait... there is more

scary-movie-shawn-wayans.gif

So last week I mentioned to xBay support that I may want another unit for son in Denver. They replied back with a 25% promotion code, I still have my prime for now, so I received a 2nd one for $94 + tax. It will be a Christmas present. I think I will sign up for Amazon free 30 day promo every year 30 days from Christmas in the future.
