Hello,
Brand new to this Forum, I just put a hold down on a 2013 Sunset Trail 26 BH (pulling with 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7hemi 3.92axle w/tow package). We are looking forward to it arriving sometime late April. We are from Edmonton, Albert area and are upgrading from a Coachmen 24tbq which was a little small for the 3 kids all under 5 and us.
I love this trailer layout for the 3 kids and cannot wait to get some use out of it...(never owned a slide out model before ! I hope these units have solid leak proof slides! There are horror stories out there). We usually camp around 40+ nights a year in B.C and Alberta.
My one major concern is the 3500# axles, reading a few posts on this forum has me concerned that they will not hold up properly with the 26BH having a GVW of 7700lbs? Can anyone provide more feedback on their units etc?? I did call around to several other trailer dealerships of different brands and with that GVW it seems standard to have 3500# axles. My concern is with the new wider stance axles turning while in reverse stress on them will be increased.? Why not have 4400# axles to be on the safe side? ( I currently have a call into the engineering group at CR.) This is the one thing holding me back from signing the final paperwork!
Should I buy this unit or not? Still about 70% for and 30% against....hummmmm
Also looking for a good suggestion on what type/size rating for a Equalizer hitch for this trailer. (hitch weight is around 720lbs)? I sold my old 1000lb eq hitch with the coachmen. Any help would be great!
This forum rocks for good education and service tips!
Thanks
Sean
