Hubby is heading back from Cali with our new purchase...have already had a couple bumps along the way but Im sure we will eventually work out all the bugs. So excited to finally do some camping that does not involve laying on the ground!

Congradulations on the new fiver, have fun camping and be safe. Ask any questions and someone will have the answer.

Hello and welcome we got a new TT this year and were having a lot of fun with it i know you well enjoy yours just as much.

2003 32RKTS...its an older model but new for us! Taking it out this weekend!

You'll love the upgrade! My wife and I started camping in tents, then to a pop up and then our 1st 5'er. It was a 1998 Dutchmen with no slide outs but it was like the Wilshire Hotel to us. Now we have the Sunset Trail and absolutely love it. Camping will be much more enjoyable to you now, I'm sure! Congratulations and welcome to the forum.

Thank you so much! Im very excited about doing some "comfortable" camping...Getting too old to be trying to pick myself up off the ground...We did quite a bit of searching looking for something affordable but still offered what I wanted. I wouldnt settle for anything that didn't have slide outs..now I have three!

Congratulations on your new to you fiver, and welcome aboard! I, too, have made the progression from tent camping to a very small travel trailer, then a little bigger travel trailer, then a huge fiver, then dumped it and the high payment for the perfect combination of size, durability, and price in the used one we have now. I think you've made a great choice going used as long as it has been taken care of. Take one bit of advice: keep it under a shed. That one step will alleviate a lot of maintenance headaches.

Thanks Mike, We have already started making some upgrades and add-ons to help...just added awnings over the slide-outs and found covered storage for our home away from home...The dealer we bought it from said they were going to reseal the roof but I do not think this was done. I didnt make a big deal though as she has been fantastic in helping us with other things..this too we will do ourselves just to ensure it's done.

What exactly do you mean by "resealing the roof"??
Just curious. Never heard it referred to quite like that.

Resealing the Seams...I havent been up there yet to check but I'd rather be safe than sorry waking up after a hard rain and finding leaks. If I state things incorrectly please refer to my status (New camper) LOL

oops...lol...Ive just been upgraded to weekend camper! woohoo

You are doing a wise thing by checking to make sure there are no gaps or cracks in your roof caulking. Use Dicor Self Leveling Lap Sealant for the flat (or mostly flat) roof surfaces. You should also go around the rest of the trailer exterior and re-caulk any cracked or missing caulk. GE exterior white silicone is a good caulk for that. Check around any windows, light penetrations, etc. to see if there are any signs of leakage. Windows have to be re-sealed periodically, which involves removing the window and replacing the butyl tape, re-installing the window, and then caulking around the edges. You will want to ensure the weep holes at the bottom of the windows are kept clear as well. And I have one more extremely important piece of advice for you: Dump the Seahawks, GO COWBOYS!!!

Congrats on the new to you 5'er. You will love the way it tows and the room inside. Enjoy and may you have many great times.

I've been told not to use silicone sealer. Dicor makes a sealer that is non-leveling which is what I use.

The GE white waterproof silicone is what the dealer service manager recommended. (Crossroads dealer in Middle Tennessee.) I've used it with good results so far. What is the reasoning for not using silicone? I am using just to seal around trim, windows, etc. on the sides of the trailer.

From the GE website

Can I apply new silicone on old silicone?
For the best adhesion, we recommend removing the old silicone. New silicone will bond to old silicone, but the bond is not strong as if it is adhered to a clean surface. If you choose to apply over old silicone, the warranty is void.
