Hello Everyone

Purchased a new 2017 Sunset Trails 270bh after an extensive search that began in the fall of 2016. Traded in our Jayco X17Z at the Calgary RV show in Feb after 4 years of ownership and freezing our butts off in the tent ends in the mountains of Alberta. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Delivery set for June 1st and really looking forward to camping this season in a much bigger unit. We use the camper as base camp for fly fishing in the mountains of Alberta, BC and a trip to Manitoba every fall to Stillwater fly fish.

We found this model seemed to check all the boxes with all the features we were looking for and some we didn't know we wanted, and seemed to be good quality but time will tell. I am a bit concerned about what I've read regarding the front caps fading but it seems they all have some issues. We narrowed it down to 2 models, a 28 foot Connect and the 270 we ultimately bought. Did not like the changes on the replacement model 2017 264bh.

We bought a 100 watt solar panel to keep the battery charged and will pick up a 3,500 inverter generator in a weeks time as we random camp 95% of the time and like the creature comforts.

Towing with a 2016 F150 4x4 crew Eco 3.5l platinum which should be ok for the weight of the unit.
I found the forum helpful as a lurker and look forward to the support from other owners and sharing information.

Cheers
Brian

Welcome Brian from NL.

Not to hijack your thread but my trailer is 7800lbs dry and I've towed it with the the F150 Ecoboost, no problems at all so I'd think you are fine. I am very impressed with the towing abilities of that engine.

Enjoy the new trailer!

Thanks!
Mine says 5,758 dry. I am supposed to be able to tow 11,800 but I did not want anything heavier than what I bought. Mileage with the EcoBoost is bad enough when towing my Jayco X17Z at 25liters per 100km. Not towing l get 11.5 per 100 average which is excellent.

Its not just a matter of What you can pull, but what can you stop.

Sorry, forgot to say welcome to the forum.

"25 liters per 100 kms" is that good? Sorry I failed metric in school.

That ok , I'm Canadian and we have had metric for something like 40 yrs and I still use mpg, although it is imperial gals not US gals. The lower the first # is better mileage.

Welcome to the forum from CT. Congratulations on the new rig and the adventures are about to begin!!!!

Guess I can't contribute much on the weight since all I know is we weigh in at about 15,000 + lbs.

Welcome from PA. I have the same TT. I bought a 2016 the summer of 2015. This is my 3rd season camping and we've only had some minor issues. So far the front cap still looks great. I have a Ram 1500 and it tows fine. The biggest problem 1/2 ton trucks run into is the payload capacity. Happy camping!

I spoke with a rep at Crossroads yesterday and was told that they solved the fading issue a couple of years ago. I hope that's true because we sign the order for a new trailer today.

Yea they solved it, they just quit fixing it under warranty, I don't think they've improved the gelcoat. If I were buying a tan or gray rv I would have it in writing that when it fades, not if cause it will, that they would paint it, not polish, buff, or some other miracle cure, PAINT IT before I signed on the dotted line.
It's not just CR having this problem, in my travels I've just about every make fading on the tans & grays especially.
