I am new to this Our RVing experience has been an interesting one. We bought our first camper after the kids were grown and gone, wishing I had done when they were young. We found a 35 year old Jayco Pop-up, and nearly froze in the high country. But the 'bug' bit us. So after a short time we upgraded to a small hard side travel trailer, while it was so small there wasn't enough room for us we were completely hooked. So we got a light weight fiver Koala bunkhouse (so we could have grandkids and family along) and still drag it around the country with our Ford F-150.
Now we have decided to make a move to the next chapter and find a fiver suitable for full-timing and we plan to go Workamping.
Just traded my F150 for a Dodge Ram Cummings diesel (had to eat a lot of crow to go from Ford to Dodge) so now I'm just getting ready to pull the trigger on a used 2012 Rushmore 35RL trading in the Koala. With all the negative reviews I read, I gotta say I'm a little nervous, however I fully understand that negative reviews prevail and others silently love their Rushmore. So what the heck, we really like the floor plan so here we go.
We are planning on going full-time in another year, this Rushmore should fit the bill nicely.

Full time, Big step...I would say, give the full time life style a year before you decide to sell your home...Personally I don't think I could ever go that route...I would always like to have someplace to come back to, but that is just what DW and I feel...

With that being said:::I wish you both great luck with your Rushmore purchase and life style...I know what you mean when you say you were bitten by the camping bug, the bug bit me also just not as hard as you...Good luck stay safe and ENJOY...:D

Been fulltimers for almost 8 years & have enjoyed every minute of it, can't imagine having to rush home to mow the yard or worry something froze up during the winter, but it's not for everyone. We have met some of our best friends traveling this great country & some of the nicest folks you could ever meet. Next fall will be our 1st attempt at workamping & I'm looking forward to it, DW not so much, but if it doesn't work out then that's ok also. Good luck with your new rv & the new upcoming lifestyle.

My thoughts exactly! Just don't want the hassles of stick n brick owner and all the expenses that goes with it, taxes, insurance, taxes, mowing lawns, taxes, then of course there is taxes too.

What the heck is Schwintek?

It's a slide system they used on some of the older model campers, and it was a pain in the butt.
Do a search here on the forum for that side mechanism. it's made by Lippert.

Welcome to the forum, and good luck.

Thanks, I will look into that

Had to eat a lot of crow to be able to buy this thing

You'll get over it. I had never bought anything but Ford all my life until I needed a diesel. Our kids were still young(ish) when we shopped for our first one in 2004. We drove test drove the Chevy and Ford and my wife and kids were appalled by the engine noise. "You can't drive us to school in a dumptruck." Then we drove the Dodge and we were instantly sold. Twelve years later I didn't even think twice about buying my second RAM.

You'll get used to it soon enough. :)

The comments on SnB ownership hassles and taxes on spot on!

Our SnB is under contract and, after closing, we can fully fund our RV lifestyle for about the same amount of money we were paying in taxes on the ol' SnB.
