Scotty, it's sort of like we used to call a functional check flight in the Air Force when a new aircraft was delivered. You know you are going to have some issues, so take it out for a couple of days, preferably not too far from home base, and run every system to make sure it works right and you know how to use it. Write up, in detail, everything that doesn't work correctly or that you don't fully understand. Then take it home and work with your dealer to get the bugs worked out. When my wife and I did this, we found as many issues with our understanding and learning how to use things as we did issues with the coach. Solving some of the puzzles can be almost as much fun (sometimes frustrating, too) as the actual camping. Don't hesitate to ask questions of the experienced Class A owners on here. I've learned tons from these guys. Happy RVing!!

Welcome! Best tip for any traveler is "checklists". One for pre-trip, another for leaving a campsite. (Antenna down, steps up, etc.) Another for winterizing. Checklists are a lifesaver for me, and routine for anyone with a military background.

The other thing I would mention is tail swing. You leave the gas pump and turn right, and the tail goes left, right into that big concrete filled pipe. (A friend did this and ripped the back cap open!)

As a pilot I learned to rely on checklists and at least once I can say for sure I would have missed something important if I didn’t use the checklist for my preflight. That said, I have to admit that I don’t use them in my RV. Should though. He secret to a good checklist is to keep it simple and focused. Slides, jacks, shore lines, compartment doors, steps and awnings....

I use checklists as well. If you have an Android phone or tablet there is a good program called RV Checklist. It is free and has some checklists already in it. You can modify them and create some of you own. I use it all the time.
