Our new RE

Picked up our new 2012 38RE from the dealer yesterday afternoon. Our first Th wheel so I went to the fairgrounds for a couple of practice backing turns and headed home to back in the driveway. Was not as difficult as I had expected. The big surprise came this morning as I ran out the slides. The bedroom went first, then both of the rear slides started out. After about six inches of movement I hear crunching and crackling noises. Immediately stop the slide movement and begin to investigate. The drawer in the rear entertainment centerwith the lock was not locked and had slid open. The trim on the passenger side slide caught on the drawer. Minor damage, no wood splinters, just a bent slide rail on the drawer and a loosened trim piece on the slide out. Dealer sent out a technician to the house who removed the drawer. A visit to the dealership is scheduled for next week to repair the wood trim on the slide.

rrs, congratulations on your new rig. We had a close call once with the drawers. Now, we always try to remember to check before opening any slides.

Does anyone know how they run the exhaust out from the
generator on the Redwood 36RE? On most 5^th wheels it just comes off
the side but on the RE has the bedroom slide close to the front. I wanted to
use one of the exhaust systems to get the fumes above the camper, don’t think I
would want that under the bedroom. </span>I
will be using mine at some of the NASCAR race weekends and they pack the

I had similar problems on our 36RL the first couple of times I put the slides in and out. The problem I had was with the cushions moving forward on the couch in the rear and getting caught behind the edge of the slide trim. My wife also left a knitting bag on the couch and it had moved forward while traveling and then it jambed in behind one of the slides when I was opening the slide.

I now double check to make sure everthing is in the proper location before moving slides in or out. So far, none of the issues that I have had, have caused any damage.

This is our first 5th wheel, so, still lots to learn.

I will add a check point to our set up list as well. My bride and copilot says she will be in charge of interior set up and take down prep while iI manage the exterior prep iI will add " get bride out of the unit before activating slides" to my list . I had a fifth wheel in the past but no slides and it had plenty of battle scars due to one oversight or another . We expect our new 36RE to be delivered in a week or so and with all the new features a check list will be a must have item for us Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

It a good idea to have a check list during opening and closeing of slides. I had a keystone and one of my cabinet doors open during travel and we did not check the door and broke the glass in the door.

Our 36RE arrived today! We opted for a smaller TV and 2 windows in the back and Redwood made that happen without incident We are going in this Friday for the walk through and acceptance etc.We are anxious to get it out for the maiden voyage but my brides schedule is a bit hectic right now.
I'll post the results of the walk through.

We finally got our walk through and acceptance of our 36re done yesterday at Windish RV in Denver. The process was abreviated due to snowy conditions but we feel confident that all the major components are functioning properly. It was 25 degrees outside and the inside was a very quiet, and comfortable 70 throughout. I noticed that there are many switches in the coach, mostly for lighting, that are not labled i am going to label them for on off and function until we are more familiar with their function. We plan to tow it from the dealer on Friday or Saturday so we will get a better run down on the auto leveling and hook up process then. I spent about an hour in the parts department selecting the various items we need for storage and campground hook up; sewer and fresh water hoses, pressure regulator, coach and tire covers, spare fuses and light bulbs, cleaning supplies, wheel chocks, misc. electrical adapters, exterior step stabilizers, king pin security lock etc. I had to bring a catalog home so my bride can pick out everything that needs to be color coordinated. I have started wading through the volumes of manuals provided for all the appliances, generator, AC/heat pump units, entertainment system etc. Wow, much to learn but until the snow clears a bit I have some time to study. I think I need to build a spread sheet of some kind to keep up with all the maintenance requirements.
Bottom line is we could find no problems of any kind, the dealership experience was 5 star and we are chomping at the bit to hit the road. We plan to stay fairly close to home this summer giving us an opportunity to shake the bugs out of the coach while we are near our dealership.

Congratulations Brett and Jan. We picked up our new 36RE on October 28th and we are still getting used to what all the switches do and what all the maintenaince requirements are. We have camped over night a total of 8 times so far and really love our 36RE. Make sure you register all your items that are covered under each manfacturer. You can do most of them via email.

Thanks and I have started getting the registrations done.Seems like for every registration i've sent in the past results in a 10 fold increase in junk mail! We took out our new 31SL this past weekend and ended up crushing a box of Kleenex that had fallen of the rear shelf while extending out the rear slides. Lesson learned - not only check drawers, but do not leave items on the rear shelf during travel.

I'm also continuing to have problems with blowing the 10 amp fuse for Lippert leveling system. I'm taking it in for warranty work in a couple of weeks. I believe this fuse is underrated. I read that another Redwood owner was having the same problem and he replace the fuse with a 10 amp breaker which eliminated the problem. I may do the same. My fuse has blown 3 times to date.

Regarding the problems 'snider' is experiencing with the 10 amp fuse on the Lippert Leveling System.

I had the same problem(s) on my 36FB and replaced the fuse with a circuit breaker.

Interestingly, it wasn't the leveling system that was blowing the fuse... It was ME not releasing the main slide switch button as soon as the pump motor started laboring after the slides were in as far as they could go. Fortunately I discovered this at the dealership during my walkthru, and didn't have to deal with it on the road.

Sinder, I spoke with the techs about the fuse problem we have been hearing about when we did the walk through on our 36re this week. He said that our unit was delivered with a 10 amp breaker instead of a fuse so maybe Redwood has made a design change since you bought your unit. He suggested that when extending the slides to do it in intervals rather than a continuous closed to full open operation.Maybe that would help you until you get or in for warranty work. Sorry to hear about the loss of your Kleenex!

Limit switches would cure the issue balorenz mentioned. Our Cameo has limit switches for slide retraction and our friends have limit switches on their Carri-Lite...
We were at Lazy Days here in Tucson the other day and checked out a 36RL that had just arrived. It has a beautiful full body paint scheme unlike any we've looked at yet.
Can't seem to get them to come down to the same price as Explorer RV in Texas... September is a long ways away..

Just spoke with Doug Richards my factory sales rep about several items...Our RW 36 FB was supposed to be off line 04/02 when actually it came off the 10th about 8 days behind projection...Quality control ...Everyon thinks once your unit is out of paint, it dries and then isshipped from paint to dealer...In fact it goes back to factory to be reinspected for quality of paint and sealing areas around seams and other places...Then it is picked up by one of several shippers who also ship for other manufacturers.....Some units may be delivered before others because they may have flaws to be taken care of before being shipped or fo the fact that these units are heavy and maybe they have to wait til a tow vehicle becomes avaiilable to handle the shipping weight of your unit..I was advised that a certain unit has departed before mine because the dealer made enough profit that he sent his own tow vehicle to pick it up..just to satisfy the customer.....My unit should be at the dealer by next Friday 04/20
