My 2017 Norcold gas/electric fridge is showing some signs of surface rust on the black tubing that zig-zags up inside the unit and on its attaching reservoir. I would like to treat the rust and use a small brush to touch up the black paint. I thought about using some rust treatment and some black enamel paint.

Has anyone out there done this before and do they know what is the best type of paint to use on this fridge tubing? Does it need to be a high temp paint?

So, as an optimist you're hoping the fridge will last long enough that some minor rust will become an issue?!? (J/K...)

I don't know if it needs to be a high temp paint or not. You could check if those areas get warm after the fridge has been on for a few hours. But even if not needed, I often use Rustoleum High Heat paint. It dries quickly (unlike regular Rustoleum paint) and has held up well in use.

IMHO if you want to paint it, as ghnl said I would use a Rustoleum type product.
I wouldn't get to rammy-jammy sanding it off. Maybe hit with a Scotchbrite pad.
