So, I posted a thread in 2020 from my bad experience with Buddy bearings. Anyone that still uses the buddy bearings by pumping grease in until it pushes out the front; See my original post here: To Much grease!. I always raise my fifth wheel at the end of the season and place on jack stands so the tires are 2” off the concrete in our building. That way in the spring I can grease, adjust brakes and check tires. So, today I pulled the wheels and checked the brake pads, checked the wheel bearings and repacked by hand. All bearings and brakes looked good.Tomorrow I’ll adjust the brakes, take 5er off the jack stands and check air pressure in the tires. Got my second set of Goodyear Endurance in 2023. Usual do this in March but we have a camping trip planned for the end of this month.

Same procedure/ritual I do every year. Replace parts as needed, adjust brakes, look over the underneath, suspension and have had good, luck so far.

Too much grease in and around the bearing is not good either. The bearing itself packed solid with good quality axel grease should be sufficient. If the entire bearing is packed full, along with a packed bearing, there is no place for excess grease to migrate to. In turn, the grease starts churning, and can overheat the bearing, defeating the purpose of the re-pack.
Think of it as if you were wading in 6 inches of water, see how fast & how much effort to do so. Now do the fast wading in 30 inches of water, the effort is much greater. The analogy of the friction being created.
Grease, it is a man-made substance, a medium for oil to be absorbed into. It is the oil that does the actual lubricating.
