replacement flooring

We have a 2013 36RL fifth wheel. We're the 2nd owners and the living area carpet needs to go. We have looked into many options, want to do it ourselves. Have a friend that put down click and lock vinyl plank, but had issues with it coming up with temperature changes, but we are full timers and shouldn't have that much temp difference.
Want to know what you guys have used and how well it lasted. Will pull the carpet out of the bedroom too, but will use carpet tiles to replace.

We did our RL with a peel and stick tile. If I had it to do over I would use a glue down permanently style. We also are fulltime and in traveling about 6k miles last year I had a few tiles move under the slides

Also - the flooring cannot be any thicker than what the current flooring is if you are going to go over the existing. Note that the tiles do not extend into the carpet areas. If you’re not going to take the existing floor up, get some leveling compound and you can filet the transition where it isn’t noticeable. When you cut the carpet out, cut the carpet pack flush or a little bit in on the kitchen slide and leave that piece. The slide uses the carpet as a cushion when it comes in.

If you’re going over the old floor, your new floor needs to be 3.5 mm or less. If you’re removing the old floor, a 5mm will be fine.

We replaced the tile and carpet in our '17 38RL with floating vinyl plank. We glued the two rows on each side. We have had a small amount of separation between the first two rows at the kitchen only. There are challenges:
-The glue holding the OEM tile in the kitchen/dining area is strong enough to hold the space shuttle together. It took seven hours to remove 120 sq.ft. of tile.
-Vinyl plank is heavy. We added nearly 150 lbs to Brobdingnagian.
-In the lounge you need to add felt slides under the leading edge of the slide. I used 1" round pieces from HD.


If I had it to do over again I would use a glue down tile. It is thinner and significantly lighter.

Can you give me a little more information about the felt under the slide? I took the carpet out years ago and put glue down planks just in that area. Thinking now of replacing all of it but have been dreading the existing floor (glue). Plus I have to use slide slickers on the lazy boy slide.

Basically doing the same thing you do with the slide slickers only the felt glides are stuck permanently on the underside of the leading edge of the kitchen slide. That said, if your slide is not scraping your floor now you may not need to worry about it. But, then again you may, if the new material you are considering is thicker than your existing surface. I don't have a photo of the installation/position of the felt glides but attached is a photo of what I used.

We did our 2012 36rl with glue down vinyl and are very happy with it. We ran it all downstairs, through the bathroom, bedroom and into the closet. However, we had issues bringing the kitchen slideout in as it caught it and peeled it up so we put in a metal transitional piece that took care of that problem. The new custom slideout molding hides the metal piece.
