Retired Today

I took the corporate lovely parting gift almost 7 years ago. I did 1/2 time consulting for about 5 years (mostly saying don't do that, I tried it and it hurt), but things have slowed down for the last year. I think this year will be the year I take down the shingle.

Now that DW has her new knee - today was her last day of Physical Therapy, we can get out a lot more than we did last year...once winter decides to let go. I'm thinking first trip this year will be to New Mexico to go to Trinity Site on April 6 and bum around NM for a week or so.

I need to stop reading this thread. I'm getting depressed[emoji22] 13 years to retirement seems like an eternity.

I didn’t plan to retire for another 5 years but the company decided otherwise. Thought about “starting over” but at 62 decided to just make the best of it and embrace the new lifestyle. Bought a bicycle and lost 40 lbs. bought the MH and never looked back. It reminds me of my college days - except I have a car, money, a steady girl, no schedule and no exams. What’s not to like?

My wife retired Friday and I have 19 months until I retire forever. Looking forward to the day I donate 20 suites and 300 ties to my church clothing bank. I will NEVER put on another tie after that. I might even grow a ponytail, if I have any hair left in 19 months.

Congratulations! :D:D

The day I retired for the first time, I burned every tie I had too many to count.. only have two now for weddings and other occasions :D

Congrats to all of you that have retired!! My wife & I have truly enjoying retirement. I like working with my hands fixing up stuff that needs it. I tore our Kirby vacuum apart and fixed the switch & installed a new impeller fan. She sucks the carpets off the floor now! LOL

“...for the first time”! Dude! The whole point is NOT going back to work. Just sayin’.
I knew an Air Force Chief Master Sergeant who invited friends over the day he retired. He took his alarm clock and put it inside a shoe box with a pair of his uniform pants, shirt, and his spit-shined shoes, went to the back yard where he had a hole dug and held a formal funeral service. He went back in the house and took a nap.

18 months until the DW will retire @ 66, then a huge garage sale, and give away...Put the home out on a long term lease and go see the USA.....@ the speed of Geezer!

Congratulations.

I am a few more work days away. I will be 60 this year and is time for DW and I to have fun. I am a bit nervous about it. I guess after 40 years of working.

Retiring March 9th and hitting the road the following week. Feel like a kid on Christmas Eve. Can't wait.

Congrats on your retirement. Now you will really be busy.:D Welcome to FL and check out the state park campgrounds as they are really nice and if you are senior enough; a really good deal.
