Roadmaster Tire Carrier Copy

For something like that, I think china is okay. It's pretty straight forward construction and at 1/4 the price, it's a no brainer. The rest of any RV is a collection of American assembled foreign supplied components.

T have had the Roadmaster installed for 6 years and had the opportunity to use it twice in that time. It really takes a beating on a hitch, but it is holding up well.

I bought it.
Review upon delivery.
It's for my mommy-van so I can have a full size spare.
I have a fixed/ridged mount one i was going going to cut and add the side hinge.
$195 is easier.

Eagerly awaiting your review.

Your rigid mount - is it one that fits into a 2" hitch receiver? Does it securely hold a 19.5" mounted spare tire?

I've been carrying a mounted spare tire on my trailer. But we don't always travel with the trailer thus I'm looking at something to carry the spare on the MH. I assume the weight of the tire carrier plus mounted spare has to be taken into account so I can't simply leave the carrier & tire on the MH and still tow the trailer. My thought is to figure out a way to move the tire carrier between the trailer & the MH depending on whether we are bringing the trailer or not.

Just the cheap curt unit with a hitch tightener/quieter/clamp.
Here's what I paid for it used through Amazon warehouse.

I've never used it.
My spare fits in the drivers side rear bin on a 24.1 and the carrier would have blocked the rear bin door.

It'll fit on my quad or s xs if needed.

For that minimal retail price differential I'd sure buy the one you recommended.

Thanks for the info. I forgot to mention that I've been carrying the spare MH tire on a homemade carrier that fits into a stake pocket on the trailer. But it's not as secure as I'd like so I'm looking for a better method. And getting the tire up to or down from my homemade carrier is not easy. So I'm thinking of adding a 2" receiver to the side of the trailer and then being able to swap the tire carrier from either the back of the MH (when not towing the trailer) or to the side of the trailer.

I need to add receivers to my trailer side.
I carry two spares on the car trailer and they're on those wonky $15 over rail mounts.

I have the receivers here, and I am adding them to a work bench this week
But hadn't thought to add to the trailers.

You've now cost me $195 and a least two more receivers and a couple of hours labor.
Thanks.
You saved me hours of fret and design.

It's still in the box and still in the back of the sxs.
I can tell you it's very heavy.
I'm about to try it onto the vehicles today if nothing else raises.

A neighbor bought four toilets for me to do an r and r in their house and I have a tank pump to pull for myself...

I have had my Roadmaster spare tire carrier for 6 years and 35,000 miles. I have had the opportunity to use twice in that time. Still holding up well even though we do often go off the paved road NOTE: It added about 160 lbs to my rear axle weight. With the outside kitchen and the large storage compartment in the rear, I am at the max rear axle weight when traveling - 12,000 lbs.

I ordered the tire carrier Oct 26, received it a few days ago. I was busy with other projects so I just got a Roun Tuit and opened the box today. It was well packaged and obviously meant for a man to assemble it (no instructions...).

Unfortunately, it appears it was welded incorrectly - the vertical bracket was not close to 90* so when the moveable tire carrying part was installed the latch ended up on the wrong side.

I have requested a replacement (and refund). Hopefully this one will be correct.

Cold out
Windy
Had other things to do
Assembled this anyway for this thread.

Mine went together just fine.
The blue tape is because I taped those damn teflon(ish) washers in place because they were jacking with me.

I havent figured out where most of the hardware goes, I'm guessing it holds the wheel on.

Mine was
Big pivot bolt. Stupidly big but I had the sockets.
Wing headed safety coupling bolt
Locator pin that holds it all upright
The lynch pin to Hold the handle in the stored position
Done.

I'm going to make a few mods.
Winged head will be replaced by drilling through and using a hitch pin.
I'll probably shorten the whole unit about six inches.
I have to add a wireless backup camera because this mount blocks our camera on the Pacifica.
Will weld wheel studs to where they should go negating the universal slots.

I did similar. I held them place with a little blue tape then pulled the tape out once the bolt had passed through.

I studied the pictures on the Amazon page to figure it out. The bolt drilled for a safety clip is to secure the assembly to the RV's hitch receiver. I assume the two other bolts are to hold the spare tire to the carrier. Gonna have to think of a better arrangement for those - otherwise you'd need two wrenches to R/R the spare tire. And there is something wrong with the threads on the large bolt it pivots on. The nut would not thread on (not even 1/2 turn - not due the nylock insert). If the thing had not been welded improperly I would have just bought a new nut & bolt locally. And figure out something so the winged bolt is more secure - some kind of safety wire or spring so it can't inadvertently loosen?

I can't think of a way for that spring pin to fail and I think the winged bolt is just some sort of liability thing along with making the spring pin kinda diddle proof by passers-by.

I'm going to drill the hole for the wing bolt clear through(just the outside one side needs drilled) and use a hitch pin.

Received the replacement tire carrier today (sent the other one back). The replacement is better. The vertical arm is still not at 90* to the horizontal part but close enough that the swing arm will latch. The rubber 'handle' on the lifting rod is loose so I glued that on.

Kind of like a Harbor Freight tool. It will work but needs some fettling to be right.
