In our Motor home I was wondering if rodents stay in their nests or do they fall out when traveling?

I noticed the beginning of a nest inside the generator when I was doing an oil change.

Thanks!

If you have known rats and do not have the time to kill them or too busy to drive for them to fall out, you can always just make them uncomfortable and they will leave on their own.

Rats have a strong sense of smell and dislike a variety of scents, including:

Peppermint
A powerful essential oil that can distract a rat's sense of smell. You can dilute peppermint oil with water in a spray bottle and apply it to areas where rats are present.

Garlic
A natural repellent with a strong, pungent scent. You can mix garlic oil with water and spray it in areas where you want to keep rats away.

Eucalyptus
The intense scent of eucalyptus can overwhelm a rat's sensitive nose.

Vinegar
The strong, acidic odor of vinegar can repel rats.

Ammonia
A harsh chemical smell that can deter rats. Mix ammonia with equal parts water in a spray bottle and apply it to areas where rats are present.

Mothballs
Contain a chemical compound called naphthalene that has a strong odor that repels rodents. However, mothballs can be harmful if inhaled or ingested, so keep them away from pets and children.

Cayenne pepper
Contains capsaicin, which gives rodents a burning sensation in their noses and mouths. Sprinkle freshly ground cayenne pepper into burrows and along runways.

Just pick one and go extra strong with the dose, they will be gone soon enough. Then I would go with Ranik bait poison in areas around the extended perimeter of the RV, not in or next to RV like many do . You wish to attract them to some safe habitat area away from the RV. You will never see rats in your RV again, but they will always be outside.

We have never had a rat in the RV, but I treat outside perimeter with Ranik and bait station I have made with baking soda and corn meal. About once a quarter I kill them all with the bait poison, traps & the baking soda mix.

Note: I have never had to use the Smell Repellants, but I have stayed in a Holiday Inn on multiple occasions

the bucket trap works great. 5 gallon bucket 2 gallons of water. We have been fortunate in we have had just one mouse. Took a week to get him. We keep our coach in an enclosed garage. We have many stickie traps long the garage floor along the walls and under the coach. We have zero food source for any rodent inside. There is lots of wiring that the insulation is made with soy. My in-laws had their Audi totally from a mouse chewing through part of the harness.

Going for a ride

Absolutely they will go where you go. I remember pulling into Cummins for service. Opening up the slide and an entire family dropped to the ground.

They like to travel in luxury too!

Mobile mice

I've never had rats, but we've had half a dozen mice. Yes, they are happy to travel along with you. If they were big enough they would probably offer to help you drive. We use Tomcat mouse traps and bait them with either Oreos or peanut butter. Put the traps where you see the mice or their nest. If you're not sure, put the traps in a corner next to a wall. We found one in the storage compartment under the floor. We're usually successful within a day, sometimes 2 days.

After returning from a visit to the farm, our MH was parked curbside at our home and the DW was sitting by the front window and exclaimed "There is a mouse that jumped on the front wheel!" I looked and saw nothing but thought better and exited the house to see for myself. As I neared the front of the MH, here this rodent jumped off the wheel and onto the curb, well I rushed at it to prevent it from going back to the MH and that is when the mouse and I started the Curbside Jitterbug... Neighbours may have thought I was nuts, but I eventually gave the sole to that little rascal. Never knew if we brought it to the city or it was a local checking out the 'new' digs.

Back in the day

Back in my early years in law enforcement, I saw a large critter run in front of my patrol car. It’s in the middle of the night and quiet.Being the young rookie, I immediately pulled over and started chasing this rat about the size of a large cat. It ran into an alley with me in hot pursuit. To my surprise the thing stood up and decided to go on the offensive. Came at me making this crazy sound, training kicked in and I took it out with my PR-24x. For many years that photo of me holding this Chernobyl style rat the size of cat hung in the squad room, with a note “Suspect Apprehended”

When we use to have a boat on the Marina, I remember one night about 3:00AM in the morning I woke up and and went outside, it was nice breeze on the lake and all was calm, so I walk out on one of the fingers at our slip and I see a black rope, I am thinking a dock line laying on finger that the one of the kids had left. I reached down to pick it up and it moved, bewildered I tried to reach for it, I heard a splash and it slithered into the lake

Although she was there inside the boat at the time, I don't think my wife knows this story
