Schwintek slide problem

Larger screw, NOT LONGER

The set screw goes through the outside time and slides into a slot on the motor housing. If you use a longer screw it will contact the motor brushes and your will destroy the motor.

Instead, use a larger diameter screw that will bite more of the housing but not go deeper into the motor.

I did this with my system when I found the small set screw insufficient to the task.

I'm not a Schwintek expert, just a DIY'er who has worked on a couple of motorhome's with Schwintek slides.

My understanding is that the motor with its 300:1 or 500:1 gearing is what keeps the slide from moving out while driving. The only way I know of that the slide could move out is if the motor was not in place, if the motor to vertical rod coupling was faulty or if the gear &/or tracks were broken/stripped. Or if there were some magical way the motor could become energized while driving.

The motor is held in place by one rather small screw. When fully seated, the motor is prevented from rotating by four pins. If that small retaining screw does not do its job it is possible for the motor to move up, the four pins become disengaged and the motor is decoupled from the vertical rod that drives the gears. The slide would then be free to move.

I would ask your trusted RV tech to check the small retaining screw and install a slightly longer screw to ensure it is fully engaed and remains so.

The motors are NOT the only thing keeping the slide in. My Moho has a slide lock on the inside that you put in place after bringing your slide in, this prevents the slide from going out unattended.

Not required unless your slide system is broke. I have a slide lock as well: it stays in the bottom of one of the storage compartments.

After 6 years of worrying my slide may not work while I'm camping, I replaced my Schwintek slide with a Vroom system this summer. It always made a lot of noise - the techs called it "chatter". I don't go camping to stress about the slide.
I kept the old motors and took them to a RV tech who works at a small (probably less than 100 units) rental company and asked if he could use them. His response - "Guaranteed I will use them within the next year."
I realize these are rental units and people are not as careful as owners. But using 2 motors in the next year!
The Vroom system makes no noise and works very well. There are no guarantees in life. But I did not think about the slide for the next 4 weeks as we made our way home. Peace of mind is worth something.

Schwintec slides

Are they saying something is broken/faulty with the gear & H block? Did they show you or provide pictures of the damage?

Rather than spend money on replacing the Schwintek slide system you may want to look at a Vroom Slide System. It is more expensive but reportedly much sturdier. I've also read that Vroom may not install their system on very large slides.

22’ was the length that Vroom told me was limit they would install. There are ways to override the Schwintec systems but finding the right control location is a bigger issue. Mine was in side compartment on ceiling or top in a pocket and hard to get to buttons required to override

After reading on this forum of others who have had the slide extend out while driving, I bought and use 2 slide locks. Like I told Judge a few years ago, $50 for 2 slide locks is cheap insurance. I don’t trust those teeny ass motors to hold a slide in place.

Thanks for your answer to that. I know that my controller is in a storage bay, and the wires are exposed. I think I'll go ensure they get protected.
