Sewer Boom

I noted on my new 2013 RW 36RL that the sewer boom was missing when I saw it at the dealership. My salesman just called this afternoon and said that Redwood is no longer using the sewer boom due to many issues and complaints they received from owners. They also stated that a few owners complained as curbs and road debris tore a few of them off. There supposedly is a new built in hose carrier right next to the connection port. I am having the shop add an additional carrier to the rear of my coach as well just to be sure I have enough room to carry a few extra hoses.

I removed my boom after a couple of trips. Couldn't find a hose to fit in it. Too much trouble.
Can you post a picture of the new hose housing? It could be the answer for some of us 2012 owners.

I'm with Grandpa, couldn't make it work on our Montana and no better luck with our 36RL. I've added to hose carriers to the back using the Receiver Hitch frame work.

I think I'm going to switch to a sewage pump. That way the hose is smaller and easier to carry.

Mine still works great. Only 10 feet of hose but it works.

I took ours off the day I picked it from the dealership then I cut and relocated the exit tube to make easy to drain into a tote tank.

For those interested. on the web, go to valterra. they have the dominator sewer hose extentions. 2ft. 5ft. 10ft. you can use the 5ft. or 10ft. with the factory tube and install there EZ hose carrier that will hold the longer one, that will connect to the one that stays in the tube.

I purchased a semi rigid sewer hose from camping world, 10 ft. Installed it in the boom, and I carry an additional 20 ft in a plastic container. The boom is working fine and we have had no problems. We have travelled over 6Kmiles thusfar and had no issues. However, am comtemplating purchasing a sewage pump, shurflow makes one and my father in law has one, it works great, pumps his tank out in minutes, up a hill and 90 feet into the septic tank.

I took a 4 inch x ~6ft black PVC pipe drilled some holes in it, capped one end and have a removal cap on the other end for storing a 15 foot sewer hose. I used 3 large hose clamps to attach it underneath the back of the trailer on hitch mount. It works great and you can really only see the end caps from the sides.

I still use the boom, but have made some changes to it so I could add in the extra valve for equalizing the two grey tanks. I have too admit the original boom design was poor engineering. My first outing with the Redwood about 6 months I had to pull over on the highway because my sewer hose was dragging underneath the 5er.

We have a 2013 rl and no more boom. But they do have a storage container right above the outlet valve mounted on the back of the tank. Since we are stationary I like it because everthing goes away.

Sinder, we have a 36RL and the sewer boom works great. 20 feet of hose fits in it very nicely. So far haven't had a problem with it.Edited by: Adamsvr

Don't know for sure, but it sounds like operator error in not putting the retainer plate on the sewer boom correctly.Edited by: Adamsvr

The more I use the boom the easier it gets. I only wish that was the only issue with the coach. i will post my current ongoing issues on a different topic.

What hose do you have, that you get 20 feet in there. Please advise and I will get one. I can only get 10 feet in mine. Thanks. Bud

I took a different approach. Since we're not full-timers and only out occasionally, I replaced the std duty CAMCO 10' that comes with Redwood with a CAMCO 20' hose that compresses to around 30". Fits nicely in boom with ends on & just use a twist on universal for the campground end.

I found the sewer boom completely useless, actually impossible to use. I have a rhino sewer hose and had to cut more than 5 feet off in order to get the rest into the boom. Plus had to remove the end coupler off in order to get the hose into the boom. Just imagine I'll be removing it very soon. Good idea, very bad design.

Campers, believe its a Camco hose, but not sure as nothing is stamped on it. In any case, we have two sections of 3" red hose tucked nicely into the sewer boom. It was a little difficult to stuff it in the first time, but successive times since it has gotten easier. Edited by: Adamsvr

After upgrading to the Redwood I was not particularly pleased with the boom, but I have learned to adapt. I use a 5' Rhino hose as the initial connector stored inside the boom. Once I'm in position I then attach a 5" clear connector (to make certain that things are running clear) with either a 15' or 20' extension, depending on thelayout of the facilities. It was nice to store hoses in the older RV's rear bumper, but again I learned to adapt and have a RED plastic container w/lid from Walmart that keeps those related items awayfrom everything else.
