Hello,

I have a 2018 Thor 4 winds on Mercedes frame. The top of the shower is detaching from the exterior wall. There is some double-sided tape behind the plastic shower and it's still tacky but does not hold. The side of the shower have screws. The hold is better but between some screws there is a small gap between the shower and the wall.

I need to fix or water will slip between shower and outside wall.

I will attach photos.

Has anybody fixed this type of problem and How did they do it?

I was thinking of adding some screws in the top of the shower but I'm not sure if that is a good idea. Any insight would be appreciated.

Regards

Personally, (I am not like other folks),
I'd use a decorative stripe of eternabond tape bonding shower to wall and never have to worry again.

Thanks for the picture. It makes it all so much easier.

I like the EB solution, but might still need to add a screw if the tension is too strong as the tape can pull away if that warp is severe. Problem with that is not knowing where there is solid material behind the paper. If the substrate is 1/4" plywood, you can probably get a screw to grab.

Then use a screw that can also have a cap, like the others on the edges. No silicone- useless crap.
I would use 2" wide black EB tape as opposed to white- I have done a lot of remodels, and would rather call attention to a solution, rather than try to hide it.

The screw might be enough if you can get it to hold.
Good luck!!

I like Ducks idea... IMO I'd specifically secure it using the expanding metal Hilman wall anchors... maybe pop some large fender washers on the screws. The wall is most likely 1/4" luan type. Then cover it with the 2" black Eternabond (great idea from Mark!).

Done properly and carefully there's NO WAY that's coming loose OR leaking!

Thank you for the recommendations. Will go with the EB tape. Before putting the EB tape I will try some 3M double sided to close the gap. If solid I will put EB tape if not I will try screws.

You are right it is Luan type boarding. Will try the Hillman anchors if double sided tape does not work

If you use 3M double sided- make sure it's VHB (very high bonding) and use primer on both surfaces.

If wall has wallpaper- will probably delaminate, or separate. I would remove any where you use the VHB tape.

Thanks for advice. It is probably wallpaper but I already put the tape... Not to worried since there was tape before and the paper stayed on. Thor probably did not use primer. If delamination happens will go with screws and careful not to brake paper. Crossing my fingers.

You're living on the edge using tape (even VH:cool: as a primary fastener. I would DEFINITELY use a mechanical faster covered with a waterproof substrate, like Eternabond. VHB is excellent for it's use case... but IMO this isn't one of them.

With tape just stuck to the surface of the wallboard you're dependent on the wall covering that's cheaply glued on... good luck with that not releasing. For a permanent repair you need to go THROUGH the wall board with a secure fastener.

Agreed!

Will see how the tape holds up, my intention is adding screws only if required. But I realized there is a good chance I will end up that way. We don't use the shower often and I can screw it in even during a road trip.

Tape is a good option

I think you are headed the right direction 3M VHB double sided tape was engineered for aerospace use. Hard to go wrong with that.

Seem to remember...

Since no one else has mentioned this, I seem to remember a similar question when I first got one of my campers. The factory answer was that they don't seal the top of the shower to the wall and they don't seal the floor of the shower to the sub-floor. I can't remember the reason why, but it never did make sense to me and still doesn't. Just thought I would throw this in the mix in case it jogs any memories.

Hello, had the same problem in my Thor Challenger rv. I used doubled sided 3m sticky tape but I also took a 12 inch paint stick stirrer that is about 1/4 inch wide and put the double sided tape on both sides and placed it about 1/2 below the lip of your shower. Make sure to use alcohol to clean the back of the shower wall and the rv wall to ensure a good bond. Usin the paint stick will help take up the space between the shower wall and the actual rv wall. You can pick this up at any Home Depot or Lowes for free. I fixed this 2 years ago and have had no issues since. After install I used an adjustable slide bar to put pressure on the assembly for a few hours just to hold it in place. Place one end up against the opposite wall in the shower and adjust until you have a good amount of pressure where you applied the 3m tape. Don't know rather that helped the adhesion process but it made me feel better doing it. Good luck

The shower PAN (not the wall) isn't sealed to the shower stall wall because it's designed to flex... and the edge of the pan extends up behind the wall a ways. If any water found it's way up there (splash from the shower) it can easily drain back out and dry. So there's a gap around the edge of the pan... an INTENTIONAL gap which should NOT be sealed with caulk.
