Solar Controller - Battery Type Not Programmed Correctly

I have a 2025 Thor Quantum LC25 with a single solar panel and a GP-PWM-10-SQ controller. The rig is equipped with two lead acid batteries.

I just noticed that the controller was programmed for AGM batteries at the factory, and has been that way ever since.

The controller has a setting for Flooded Cell batteries. Should I change the setting? Any changes that this will damage or shorten the life of the batteries? I haven't noticed any problems, but we have never boondocked so I have never pushed the batteries anywhere near capacity.

Thanks

When you say "lead acid" I'm assuming you mean flooded lead acid? AGM are also lead acid... they just have "absorbed glass mats" instead of liquid electrolyte solution.

I would recommend setting the controller to the correct battery type, as AGM and flooded batteries have different charging profiles. Flooded batteries typically require higher voltage to stave off sulfation. It's possible the flooded batteries would not fully charge if set to AGM.

Get some lithium batteries

Can't believe still selling new rigs with lead!

Add some solar after that. It will change your rv experience

100% agree. No excuses for MH builders not using LiPO house batteries as OEM equipment today! In this case, if the OP has no plans on ever boondocking, go ahead and use them up first... then replace with Lipo.

Yes - flooded lead acid. Sorry for not being more clear.

Thanks!
