Folks,

We are planning on taking "up to" 8 day trip during the second week of March. These are the proposals I made, wife rejected most of them. Wonder what fellow RVers have to offer

Class C Motorhome Quantum SE (not the luxury Quantum), two kids 10 and 11. Starting from Houston. One godzilla driver. I have been driving across the country for 30 years and it never gets tiring.

1. GC (1 night), Las Vegas (1 night), Death Valley (3 nights) and back (GC, LV are only mentioned as we will pass through them). Other than LV Hilton, no hotel appears to accept RV parking. I once worked at Red Rock casino and I used to see RVs all the time. Been to all these three places multiple times, but never camped in an RV in Death Valley.
2. Key West (4 nights stay and back. Nothing else. Only if we can find reasonably priced RV park within 30 miles from KeyWest
3. Pensacola (stay there 4 nights and back. Ft Pickens is all booked up).
4. Big Bend (stay there 3 nights and back)
5. South Padre (stay there 3 nights and back). We all fell sick on our Dec trip and did not do much there. But I heard South Padre attracts lot of rowdy crowd during the spring break.

Any other thoughts? Texas has many hidden gems almost every 50 miles of any direction you go. So instead of targeting popular places, find hidden gems in other neighboring states. I wonder what we might be missing in Oklahoma, Arizona, NM, Louisiana, Mississippi.

Thanks
Raja

I won't comment on where to go as that is a subjective decision. When we traveled on our kids' spring break time for 8 to 10 days we traveled every other day stopping at places we wanted to spend a day doing activities. If you arrive at the campground early enough you can even slot the afternoon of a travel day for activities.
When we went to the Keys we stayed in a campground in the mid-Keys and made Key West a day trip.

One place to consider is Branson, MO. We stayed at the Branson Lakeside RV park and really enjoyed our trip. There are several shows and shopping in Branson and the nearby Silver Dollar City and you can take a train ride into Arkansas, rent a boat for the lake and many other fun things. However, it may not be a warm enough location for Spring Break (depending on the dates).

I did check it out, and it looks like my kind of place. I will keep this in mind for May/June trip (and the prairies will be in full display too). Yes, too cold for March.

I would suggest Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands NP. FYI When we were in Williams AZ in 2023 at the end of March, it was cold and windy and freezing at night....

Tombstone Arizona and Karchner Caverns State Park in Arizona. There is a very large RV campground about 2 miles from Tombstone(if you have a tow vehicle with you) or a RV campground right in the town of Tombstone. Kartchner Caverns State Park is very close to Tombstone and has a State Park RV campground that is very reasonable with water/electric at each site. There is a central dump station to use either on the way into or out of the campground. You can easily walk to the visitor center and take the tour of the caverns. It is very interesting at the caverns and surrounding area. We took our grandson there to both places a couple of times(he is now 12). He loves both areas we visited.

Thanks Maggie, been to Carlsbad twice and looking to take my mom there next year. Went to Whitesands too at that time, incredible to see the sand absolutely devoid of impurity, even sugar sand beaches of Alabama cannot come close to it.

Thanks Paul. This is exactly the kind of details I was hoping to get from RVers. Please keep it coming.

Another place with a lot to do is the Bear Lake/Trail Side KOA in Garden City Utah. It is in the very northern park of Utah. They have off roading adventures, the lake offers water sports and fishing. The campground has a lot of activities for kids and the entire family. They do fill up quickly and have full hook ups. We stopped there a couple of years ago and got lucky getting a site (during the summer months) at the last minute.
