, but on another Forum the Progressive EMS Model # EMS-HW50C, rated at 240V/50A gets the nod from most of the full time people.

HTH, Keith

I did some pretty good research and finally ordered on line aProgressive hardwired EMS LCHW50..It is a current surge and voltage protector.....I found pricing from $254 up to $588 and the winning choice was through Camping World online at $254 plus Texas tax...and because we are Good Sam's members no shipping charges

Royce, since you've decided on the Progressive surge protector can you tell us whatyou have to do to install a hardwired surge protector?

Sure Steve, as soon as I get it I'll send a copy of the installation procedures....When did you say you guys are coming to Texas

We'll be getting our annual inspection done in Mesquite between Christmas and early January. Then we're heading toward Hondo then Pecos.

Update: My curiosity got the best of me so I looked on Progressive's website for installation instructions. Here's a link to the PDF for your model Royce.http://www.progressiveindustries.net/manuals/LCHW50.pdf
One thing I hadn't thought of was the option of wiring it in after the transfer switch if you have, or plan to get, a generator.Edited by: TravelinAnderson

Just checking in on the installation of the Progressive 50amp surge protector. I'm pretty handy with a screw driver but don't know if this is a project that I should tackle. Was the install difficult?

Just got my surge protector and haven't installed it yet....I watched a video on the installation which did everything except cut wires and actually install one...The problem I can forsee is that their install was on an older unit where the power line and source were located just inside the storage compartment in the floor....Since all of our units power lines attach at the rear of the coach I don't know if the unit should be installed at the rear or somewhere just behind the storage wall or inside the battery box area....If ther is anyone out there that has done this or had it done could you please send a picture of installation area.....Thanks in advance

I am considering buying the same unit. Did you buy through a local dealer or online?

Have you looked into a cord reel for the power cord?

I was looking at the SSP-50 and wondered if it would work correctly when connected to 30 amp shore power. Progressive Industries assured me that it would work fine from 50 - 15 amp power.

I was just reading on another forum that many of the newer units since 2007 have built in surge protecton...I am sending message to RW to find out if ours already have this protection

I bought mine online thru Progessive Industries for $254......I haven't had the time to install it yet but I am also checking with RW...I read on another forum that many of the units made after 2007 already had built in surge protectors...I will let you know what I find out

If there is surge built in, it must be in the converter - since it appears to be the junction for all of the heavy electrical inputs. Since Steve just worked with it, maybe he'll reply withthe model # so it can be researched.
My concern with thenon-hardwired unit is obvious. It's too expensive to bejust sitting outside by the connection post.

Brian emmons just advised me there is no surge protector built in and suggested if you have a generator to place the unit before the transfer switch....Also just went on internet and LCH50 is available on line with camping world for $275 plus change from camping world...toatal tanx and shipping

Once the purchase is made, where does the unit reside? Do you install it in the battery compartment?

Mike we use an earlier version of Camping Worlds

Our version has led lights to indicate errors. I thought that it was a good idea to test your power source before pluging in. I have a padlock and chain on mine and it works fine. This way the box is safe for now and I didn't have to try and get into the bowels of our coach.</span></span>
