T-Mobile Home Internet Gateway - Replacement Isssues

And you carry all that with you while traveling? What good is the probability when the connected devices are not just as portable?

We camp often and fly now.
The 3 MH tvs with firesticks We use.
Wife loves her PC for her goodies.
I love my Samsung tablet for my goodies.
At times we do family camping and family uses our wifi.
Airport travel to reduce phone hotspot & phone battery drain, I will demo RG1200 in all these cases.

I think you are referring to this from T-mobile: JEXtream® RG2100 5G Mobile Hotspot

I checked the T-Mobile Web site for this. There were 3 reviews, 1 Good and 2 bad. To be fair this was only 3 reviews but still the bad reviews are not good. As far as the portability for this device that is nice but do you really need this when your phone is also 5G capable? Yes, Yes, the phone has limits as a hot spot, but those limits do not apply to mobile data used directly by the phone. I assume you are using the phone as a hotspot for a tablet or a PC, if it is a tablet why not just get a 5G tablet? Then you would not need a hotspot and you would have no limits on the streaming data.

I consider online product/service reviews but often take them with considerable skepticism since people are much more likely to post complaints than they are praise. The reviews for both our T-Mobile home internet gateway and mobile hotspot were primarily negative and we have had excellent experiences with both.

Also I think you are using the JEXTREAM® RG2100 5G Mobile Hotspot I have not been able to find an RG1200 model in any of my searches.

Just goes to show T Mobile Home Internet Rocks and it is just the beginning.

I don't crow for nothing. There is a reason why so many threads and post on the subject continues. I guess short of some areas of the country, if you live in or travel in areas with T Mobile it is perfect for a RV. Disclaimer: you have to at least be willing to pretend to keep it as stationary at home, not a Hotspot nor a Satellite, but something that will ensure you have quality Internet 99% of the time for $50/month, no equipment to buy, no contract. You need internet on the go, get a 5G phone, you need a Hotspot, buy more GB for your phone, you need a new phone battery STOP BUYING Apple!!!

Wasn't IBM ahead of the Operating System's Software, but yet chose to focus on Hardware; then Microsoft comes along and software became The Game :coolsmiley:

We just keeping you on your toes. Enjoy the trip. A year from now a lot of things can happen. Who knows T Mobile may pull my Black Box and I have no choice but to go with a external Hotspot device.

With that said; your requirement of wanting a battery powered device is a good one. Let me list my complaints about T Mobile's Black Box.

1. The 3 amp power consumption is unjustifiable (no wonder it can overheat)
2. They removed the battery from the black box where it was a feature in previous model
3. Cannot turn off DHCP Server to use only as Access point on my existing Home network
4. Odd shape and very fragile power adapter
5. Limited or no controls of Router settings / features i.e. opening of ports, port forwarding etc.

Yes I worked or IBM early 80's and Mircosoft after that.
My t mobile Home did get hot 🔥 at times.
We had to move around at times for better signal and needed plug 🔌. RG2100 hopefully can be placed in our bed area no plug in a work :)

Mine is set up on a pair of equipment cooling fans, one on the bottom and one on the top. Since doing so it’s never needed restarting. I always thought it was the internal battery charging that might overheat it, but maybe not.

Great idea.
I had 2 units and both got hot and needed restarting.

Has anyone done a cost comparison between T-Mobile Internet and using their cell hot spot?
FWIW, I use Xfinity Mobile at $30/mo unlimited data (we have 2 lines); however they reserve the right to throttle after 20 gigs. (I have no clue how much data my Mac laptop would use surfing the net)

It comes down to more than cost….. at least for me.

A physical gateway devide will have a better antenna array than a cell phone meaning better connectivity and better throughput.

Also, when a cell signal gets down to 1 or 2 bars in a cell phone, the phone hotspot feature can drop the WiFi connection once the cell signal is weak enough. Then you have to try and reconnect it again.

It also becomes more problematic when you wantnto connect smart devices like TV’s, GPS and cameras.

I have unlimited AT&T but I only use it as a hotspot as a last resort. I use Tmobile Home when underway and Starlink when stationary if T-Mobile is not working well. My smart devices automatically connect to which one I happen to be using.

Thanks. I don't even take delivery for 3 more days, so I'm looking for more experienced advice.

FYI - our cells are t mobile. Pay $10 a month more for 5g hotspot. After 10 mgbs speed drops to 4g. Our Verizon home unit has unlimited 5 or 4 whichever is at site. We’ve been all over the west. No service from anyone at Crater Lakes. But tree canopy would have precluded starlink. And just in case, we’ve got a mobile 4g hotspot with 10 mgbs. It’s pay as you use.

We had them mobile home and love the better signal and unlimited. Lost when we moved.
See my thread on jextream.
I am using the 12 hour battery or plug in device with t mobile.
After a few demos driving and streaming the entire way..we LOVE IT!
FITS anywhere..no plug in needed once charged.
Double speeds and bars vs. Phone hotspot.
$50. 100gb.

The jeXtream is $99 on special. Is it $50/month just as T-Mobile Home internet? Is it any faster? Is the only difference no plug in and $99 for the unit?

I paid $198..looked for special:)
T mobile unlimited..jextream not.
T mobile got hot and shut down.
T mobile needed our inverter or electric
Took up table space.
This device small and we place it on mh dash etc.
Used to move t mobile home around mh and search for plug.
This we move anywhere and take to family friends etc in our pocket if their wireless is slow

They are 3 different products offered by T Mobile for different applications.

1. Phone Hotspots
2. Mobile Hotspots
3. T Mobile Home Internet

You have to decide which application you need. There is no comparison of one better than other, and pricing can vary based on other services or packages you have with T Mobile. i.e. If you have a Magenta package; T Mobile will open doors for you, if you have more than 4 phones they may do more.

We have Phone Hotspots on 5 phones; but not enough data to rely on. I don't like or want dropped speeds.

I didn't like the Mobile Hotspots because they had limits & require you to buy a device.

I got the Home Internet because I did not believe it was free, truly unlimited, and that you could take with you portable on occasions. I was paying $50/mo; but they dropped us to $35/mo as part of a unlimited promo (5 phones).

With that said, I expect one day mobile T Mobile Home Internet may be shut down? But until then, it is the greatest thing for the way we use. I think the Jetstream with battery is nice convenience, but for me I don't need battery access to internet, because we have Mobile Phones to do that. If I wish to stream TV or pull out my laptop, I am likely going to have power anyway. Having Internet in the RV 24/7 is all I need, and it runs off the Inverter if not on shorepower.

I will add that I can also use my T Mobile Home Internet at Home like it is intended. It runs our entire house (all TVs, computers phones, etc.) just like Spectrum fiber.

We keep ours on a bookshelf underneath the TV in RV that is otherwise unused. It is like Art sitting on the shelf.

I have never had it get hot and shut down, but you talking to a man that runs 2 ACs pretty much 24/7 when RV is in use and outside temps are above 89 degrees; but I will keep this in mind so when the new gateways that I don't haver to buy become available, I will tell them I am concerned about mine shutting down to get a newer model:rolleyes:
