T - Mobile Plan to Charge RV Owners $110/$160 monthly

Anybody notice that T Mobile is advertiser of this site. Be careful what you say, and as always support the sponsors, nothing is free. My allegiance to T Mobile has a new benefit / beneficiary :coolsmiley:

Speaking only for myself, I’ll leave the T-Mobile cheerleading to others so inclined and instead opt to directly support the forum owner, RVLife, via my subscription to their premium service.

That is your right to do so.......

But they certainly don't seem to invest in this site in terms of updating it to the standards of other similar Forums. This site a bit antiquated..... especially the classifieds section.

But as other have posted on this and other similar Forums, these forums are dying a slow death. I'm not a Facebook guy but most people now go to Facebook Owners groups to share information and ask for assistance and advice.

I reluctantly created a Facebook account 5 months ago when I wanted to join owners groups to research my next RV purchase. It was helpful but I still prefer these Forums and I'm not that old...... only 60.

Now that I own a Dynamax I will say the Forest River Forum is pretty good compared to this platform. It also doesn't hurt that the Dynamax General Manager and other employees participate daily and will answer questions and provide information directly to Forum users. It was one of the factors in my decision making process to purchase a Dynamax knowing they were personally invested in customer satisfaction and customer service and not hiding behind a desk at HQ.

Agree completely that this and other forums in general are withering away. Facebook is not my cup of tea, so I’ll go out with the forums when they disappear. Believe it or not I actually made a couple of posts about hotspot unlocking on T-Mobile’s forum when I was a customer, and theirs seemed essentially dead then as well.

At least this forum is fairly thick skinned.
I do not readily or ambitiously participate on forums other than this one.

I used to belong to one, pre-2008 crash that was $500 a month to join. It's gone.

Then garage journal(I was booted for telling someone the 7 in front of their iq didn't mean they were lucky. When he asked what that meant, I responded with 'see?') I was on there for 6ish years. I never even used the words me or mine let alone did they know I had the Behemoth Garage. Those who came by were sworn to secrecy. I used to be very private about location and toys. For some reason startling to me I am not so shy here on this forum.

And now this forum.
This Thor forum delve was a social experiment to find out if you all were the selfish driving, unknowing of life, entrenched goofs I had thought. Yup. Some of you are but it turns out the experiment was about me and not you.

A very short term on the Pacifica forum to learn about the vehicle.
It should be called
'Karen can't remember where the start button is' forum.
Mommy van, mommy wine whine.

Tbird forum to learn of the car. A post a month or so if someone has a question. Like here, my question days were short lived. I'm an answer guy now.

I think our Thor forum is far more cross sectional of life in general with no brand loyalty to snapon(garagejournal) or Prozac and wine(pacifica) or restoring a bolt inside a transmission to the correct color while ignoring the aftermarket ac on your stupid restomod(tbird).

I’ve been a member of a couple of car (Mustang) forums now for about twenty years. One of the two that is mostly local to the DFW area is pretty much dead or migrated to Facebook, and the other that is nationwide but limited to a specialty model from 2003 and 2004 is on life support. Good times on both, but the internet seems to have moved on.

Is your specialty mustang special because of paint?
Unbelievably, I found a quart of that at a yard sale for $20.

Ok, so starting today T-Mobile is suppose to be enforcing Address Verification.

https://www.tmonews.com/2024/06/t-mobiles-home-internet-address-verification-back-on-track/?amp=1

So for me the question is going to be when I take it offsite, will it shut itself down, or will they allow such usage over threshold to conclude that it is not at it's primary.

My unit is in RV powered up at the correct address. The 1st time I drive the RV, I will be a wanted a criminal... maybe

My picture will be next to yours in the Post Office the week after next. That's when I will be taking T-Mobile Home Internet with me for a 4-day boondocking trip to my in-laws about an hour away from the primary address.

If they cut me off during my trip, it will be interesting to see if it goes back online once it returns to the home address.

They do say you can change your address if your old one is no longer applicable and T-Mobile Home will still work..... if they offer it in the area for that address. Problem is T-Mobile Home is not offered in many rural areas so changing your address on the fly may or may not work.

If they cut me off, I'll be stopping by the local T-Mobile store to trade the Home Internet Gateway for a HotSpot SIM Card Plan.

I SEE A CLASS ACTION..

As shared by The Mobile Report, a number of customers were using a different address for their unlimited Home Internet account so they could bypass ineligible locations. The publication shared that some employees were instructed and encourage to “work around the issue” so they could get more signups.

SOLUTION...
If these two options are not suitable, customers will need to switch to another plan that doesn’t need address verification (such as Home Internet Lite or Away); or they can cancel their service.

Being deranged is one of my finer attributes, but they can never prove I am armed. I will simply cut my sleeves off and stick my arms inside my shirt.

My hope is that they are really going after the people who permanently using in an area they are not suppose to, not the temporary nomadic wanderers. I am gonna guess that 80% if the time I am using at registered location.

I was told by T Mobile several times that unless you are using the box for some extended period of time, i.e. 2 months, they did not care about the random usage away from home.

I am not gonna sue them, I will just give them their damn black box back. I will find something else. We have our phone's hotspots as backup.

I received this moments ago from starlink.

That's interesting!

Too bad I don't use Starlink for my home or that would be the way to go. For someone that does use Starlink Residential and has an RV, that is probably the best and ultimate solution.

What I find interesting is that T-Mobile and Starlink announced their partnership two years ago to offer Satellite Direct-to-Cell and they launched the first satellites for it back in January.

Then T-Mobile goes on the war path and wants to to lock T-Mobile Home Internet down but ends up offering two Away Plans and their Unlimited Away Plan is $10 more than Starlink's Unlimited Roam Plan..... basically competing with Starlink but T-Mobile doesn't work all the places Starlink does.

Now Starlink offers a Mini Roam Plan that costs less than the regular T-Mobile Home Internet Plan that works anywhere.... although granted you are paying $150/mo for both home and RV..... but looks like you can pause the RV Plan when not using it and it is still cheaper than the Unlimited T-Mobile Home Away Plan.

They may be partners..... but they're not friends!

It is called Collusion. A non-competitive, secret, and sometimes illegal agreement between rivals that attempts to disrupt the market's equilibrium.

The act of collusion involves people or companies that would typically compete against each other but who conspire to work together to gain an unfair market advantage

My gut feeling is that CEO of T Mobile has listened to E. F Musk and said you know what we can all make billions if we just work together. T Mobile is asking people to pay 5 times what they have been paying to do the same thing. They will get enough sheep that don't mind being fleece to make a lot more money from the rift raft like me that may leave.

But at the end of the day, it is a game that I have been winning for 3 years now, when the rules change, I will quit and go play with somebody else, wasn't even my ball to begin with; so I will simply throw them their ball back in their face as I leave :coolsmiley:

Not part of this possible class action, but I am in on one in response to their data breach(es). I’ll gladly take the $50 or so pittance that might come out of that one, knowing that any settlement T-Mobile is subject to will simply be charged back one way or another to their customer base.

I am at least 20 miles from my registered home address (not in RV, but SUV) the T Mobile Home Internet Black Box fired up and connected like normal. I even made a financial transaction on ebay. I will take it back home tonight.

So at least I know it is not an immediate shutdown at a new GPS location.
