Since I recently bought a Four Winds Class C, and live in Southwestern Michigan - about 70 miles from Elkart, In, my wife and I took a factory tour of the Thor Class C operation a few days ago. Very informative.
We got a lot of questions answered, everyone at the plant was cordial, and man, were they building motorhomes!
One thing that did surprise me though, and I guess I should have figured it, is that in addition to the many RV factories in the area, there were many support industries; everything from Atwood, to Onan, to Dometic.
Everywhere you looked, there was a woodworking/cabinet plant here, a fiberglass plant there...
Elkhart is really not a big town, and everyone we met was saying that business in the last year has been booming.
We also found a RV surplus store that buys everything from jack-knife sofas to just about any appliance you can imagine.
Unfortunately the Thor factory does not allow cameras.
If anyone ever happens by the Elkhart area, I highly recommend a factory tour.
