I know that many of you have done the MorRyde upgrades, 8k axels, and disc brakes. We have a 2014 38RE. Trying to decide if we do these upgrades will they be recoverable at trade-in or sale time? My wife wants the upgrades and I just don't know about investing that much more money in a 2014 model

I would say you won't recover on resale. You might sell faster than the other guy, but overall I'm pretty sure resale prices fall back to basics. We had factory disc brakes and 8k axles, and they did nothing for us on resale over those that didn't.

Just like owning a Harley, put all the chrome you want on it, get nothing when you trade it in. Most dealers will not even look at your trade in, all they do is look up wholesale and that's what you get. So, if you enjoy that chrome go for it, but that money is GONE!

They will help with piece of mind when on the road but you won't get your money back. IS you will do a bit better.

When we buy an RV I have never planned on getting my money back...we just enjoy it for a few years and buy another as life lets us.

At the Rally we just did the following to our 2015 GK.

8k Axles, Center point air suspension, Back up camera, Air Flex pin box, Bronze grease type bushings, Disk Brakes, Goodyear 17.5 "H" tires.
For only one reason we feel safer on the road.
We had all the Lippert stuff was done at Lippert and the tires and Disk brakes with Ron, on site.
Also we did the aluminum stairs, the new dump hose system and their new bed (These 3 were the best $$$$ spent :) LOL)
But honestly if you go and get your unit weighed you will do these changes. I'm sure. We try really hard to keep the stuff down to a minimum, travel with max. 10 gal of water and when you weigh the unit and your 2 axles are just shy of 13,000, you have 2 - 7k axles and "G" tires. For me that is too close on the tires and axles.

And you know what they paid for them selves on the way home. A young girl literally went through a red light and when realized it STOPPED right in front of me. Truly she was lucky...

Very true. That is why when I have traded in my Harley's I take everything off before trading in. Although I don't have the upgraded suspension or disc brakes on my present RW, if I was to trade my RW for a new one and had the upgraded suspension, I would seriously consider exchanging suspension system with the new RW :D

I think the better plan would be to work the better suspension in on the the new coach, you're giving one on your trade, get one on the deal for the new one.
Personally I haven't had any major issues with the 7k axles, but mine is probably not as long as yours. Next month I'm having the disc brake upgrade & changing to H rated tires, not because I've had a problem but just due miles & wear & in the past upgraded to the MorRyde heavy shackles with wet bolts. Any change or upgrade is going to be on you & don't expect ANY return on your investment, it's an rv.

Decision made on upgrade

Looks like we will be headed to Elkhart in the spring. Talked with the people at MorRyde after finding out nobody in Texas can do the work. Had planned a trip to Virginia and the Smokies so this will just be a slight "detour". Any recommendations for additional work while we are there? Want it to be a one and done trip!! Thanks all!

I would say since your going 3/4 of the way , do the full Monte and add the 17.5's from Ron... You will never have to worry about the under side of the trailer for a LONG TIME...You will not regret the upgrades, you asked their return cost..... PRICELESS !!!!

The new H tires are on the list! Ron is in Elkhart? We've never been to Indiana so this is all new to this Texan!

No,no.. Ron is in Oklohma .. But his team travels all around doing disk brake installs... He also ships wheels and tires all over the country.. You won't be sorry !

Not to take business away from Ron, but MORryde does do 17.5 wheel and tire conversions. So you could get the IS, Disc Brakes, and Tires all in one stop. And depending on what you currently have for a King Pin, maybe even the MORryde Pin Box.

I'm thinking you called it! The full deal including the pin box while we are at MorRyde. Can you give me a ballpark on what we are looking at $ wise? Whatever it is will be worth it for my wife's peace of mind. Happy wife happy life!

When we were planning on getting it done, Vaughan (piperguy) advised us to plan to stay another day or so rather than run off, because once you test drive they may need to adjust the springs (replace the rubber sheer springs) if the ride is too rough or soft. If your Journey puts you somewhere else in a hurry, its hard to get it back in for adjustments.

Great idea- thanks!!

We went up to South Haven MI after the IS install for the weekend. It's about a hundred miles away and a beautiful lakeside town. Also gives the suspension a good workout over interstates and two lanes.

When we got back, MorRyde decided the springs were a little stiff and changed them to a softer set. Took them all of about 2 hours. Can't say enough good about that company.

MORryde 8K IS and Kodiak disc package - $6400.00 give or take
MORryde Pin Box - $ 800.00
17.5 wheel & Tire combo - $2,500.00 +/- (goodyear)

I would figure in $10,000.00 to be safe.. My numbers are a bit old , but will get you in the ballpark. While your at it , ask MORryde for a cost on upgrading your bearings to the USA made Timkens... You may be able to get them to work out a good deal since you are doing everything...

The folks at MORryde are great to deal with , where else will you get a key for their facility doors so you can come and go when you please if staying in the trailer. . .
