Thoughts on upgrades please

MORryde 8K IS and Kodiak disc package - $6400.00 give or take
MORryde Pin Box - $ 800.00
17.5 wheel & Tire combo - $2,500.00 +/- (goodyear)

I would figure in $10,000.00 to be safe.. My numbers are a bit old , but will get you in the ballpark. While your at it , ask MORryde for a cost on upgrading your bearings to the USA made Timkens... You may be able to get them to work out a good deal since you are doing everything...

The folks at MORryde are great to deal with , where else will you get a key for their facility doors so you can come and go when you please if staying in the trailer. . .

Thanks!Thats about what I was thinking. They told us about the key as we were wondering if we could stay there or nearby with our dogs. Can't wait to get this done!

They have frowned against pets staying there.. A few of the RW folks were told no when they were coming for their upgrades at the rally... Ask them to know for sure. there is a Marriott , possibly a Fairfield inn just up the road from them ,right across the street from Tiara RV that is Pet friendly.
IF you stay in the RV . .
They start work at 5:45AM , you NEED to be slides in 6am so they have full access to your undercarriage , depending on your habits , that may be hard...

Not to take business away from Ron, but MORryde does do 17.5 wheel and tire conversions. So you could get the IS, Disc Brakes, and Tires all in one stop. And depending on what you currently have for a King Pin, maybe even the MORryde Pin Box.

I believe another benefit of getting the brakes from MORryde is that you can get sealed bearings. That option is not available with the Titan brakes. I am only 60% sure that my statement above is correct. 100% sure I could not get sealed bearings with Ron's.

I think you are right Scott. I talked to MoRyde 3 years ago and was told that they would install NevRLube bearings at an additional cost. I hade the NevRLube bearings on my previous fifth wheel and loved them. Never had to worry about lubing all those bearings.

When I talked to MORryde about the Never-R-Lube Bearing, they didn't recommend them for a heavy trailer. We did have them put on our Montana, but it weighed approx 5K Lbs less than our MB. If you have a light weight trailers they're a good deal, but with our heavy units I would question it.
Best to do is ask when you make your appointment and see what they suggest. I'm pretty sure if you have problems with the Never-R-Lube they aren't as easy to replace.

I agree with MHS, I don't want never lube bearings on this beast, too heavy. On a much lighter trailer I think they would be great. Same with the Never Fail bushings, give me the bronze with wet bolts any day.

I can tell you that if you do have a problem with the nevRLube, you have to first of all find a replacement (keeping an extra one on hand could solve that), then you have to find someone that can press out the old bearing and press the new bearing into the hub. That could be a real issue, depending where you are at the time you need it. I had them on a NuWa Hitchhiker that had a GVWR of 14000 lbs. They were Dexter, not Lippert and I was able to get the replacement bearings for around $90.00 each and then the added cost of pressing in and out which I think was around $50-$75 at a local bearing shop. It was hard finding the right bearing and I ended up ordering through a local Dexter dealer.

DRV uses sealed bearings and most have a much higher weight than we do. Some owners are carrying a spare rotor/hub/bearing (which is what I would do) to avoid delays in case of a problem.
I looked at changing to these sealed bearing hub/rotors on Kodiak's site (KHR138XL9E), but in the end ran out of time and just replaced with Timkens & seals. Maybe next year. Added new Stainless Steel backed pads while I was in there.

I'm not sure I understand the correlation between a never lube axle/bearing and weight. I can provide examples to you all day long of machinery and vehicles, significantly heavier than an RV, where sealed bearings are customary.

That is what I was thinking.

OK, this is how it was explained to me: Standard hubs have an inner and outer bearing assembly on each side of the hub, with what approx 5 to 6" between the bearing assemblies. While the Never-R-Lube is a complete assembly in one package, with minimun space between the two bearing assemblies, thus all the weight is carried within an approx 2" area.
Now this maybe totally wrong, I'm just relaying what I have been told. And again, when we had them installed on our 14K Montana I asked the MORryde Tech about them and he said we would be OK on our Montana, but he wouldn't recommend them on heavier units like DRVs.

Only thing is, my training was in Electronics, but I did work closely with some of our Mechanical Engineers, plus growing up on a small farm in Western New York.

I really like the MORryde sliding tray, but I installed it myself. They could do it at MORryde when you get your IS.

We’re wanting a one and done, too. We’ve decided to spring for MorRyde IS, 17.5 H rated tires, disc brakes, and the super pin box- trail air flex? Can we get all of this at the rally? Or, if not, where to start?

Get a hold of moreryde and lippert for your pinbox to schedule an appointment before, during or after the rally. Contact Ron Russell akka Titan guu and he can do your disc brakes and tires at the rally. He has excellent prices and quality workmanship

As Shane said. Other option would be to have MorRyde do the discs at same time as IS. Probably a bit more $$ than Ron and the Titan controller is a little quicker than Kodak.
Make the IS appointment at MorRyde far in advance as it takes two days and they are usually scheduled at least 3-4 months out.

Will be the best $$$ you spend

I'm thinking you called it! The full deal including the pin box while we are at MorRyde. Can you give me a ballpark on what we are looking at $ wise? Whatever it is will be worth it for my wife's peace of mind. Happy wife happy life!

Just FYI... We received a quote from Rob Kolean at MORryde less than two months ago for $6550 to do the IS system with disc brakes at their factory. We ended up getting ours done in Oregon since it's MUCH closer than Indiana :)
