Tire Rotation...

Shoot me your opinions about tire rotations on a class C. Our FW 24F rides on a Chevy 4500 chassis withe the standard 16" wheel and General tires. We traded a TT for this almost 6 months ago. I have a lot of experience with TT tire issues and such. But this is out first motorhome.

At 7400 miles now and the maintenance minder telling me 15% oil life I am taking it in for it's first oil change. Should I get a tire rotation with an oil change like I do with our other vehicles?

Unless you are putting way more miles than normal for an RV, they will deteriorate by age before the miles have any affect. I have NEVER rotated tires on any motor home I have owned.

THE LONG ANSWER... I just had my ws31 aligned last week. I have very minor inside wear on the steer tires after 9500 miles on factory alignment. The Tech doing the alignment said "Rotate the two front tires as a pair to the right rear, right rears to left rear and left rears to front". He asked if I stored the MH outside or inside. Outside I said, with tire covers. He says rotating helps limit sun exposure to the same tire sidewalls. The tires are flipped inside out and side to side as they are moved around the MH. Take it or leave it...just what he told me.

I have a new spare and I'm also wondering about a rotation sequence, I've always heard a radial tire should always stay on the same side and roll the same direction. But with duels this gets difficult.... does it really matter that much? As I think about this I'm sure my radial car tires and snow tires never get put back on the same side..

I knew someone would come up with a long answer. I believe most coaches never have the tires rotated. 99dart gave direction on how you might rotate if it becomes necessary.

Remember, these tires are designed for heavy duty, unlike your cushy sedan tires. They will weather out and need replaced long before most of us wear off the tread. The tires on any RV aren't directional, meaning they could be mounted on either side.

There are plenty of things to worry over on an RV. Rotating tires isn't one of them.
