Hi! I need some help please. We are on the road for a month and this is a new one to me. I have a 2016 Axis 25.2. The water coming in to the toilet is black at first and smells like the black tank. After I run it a bit it clears up and most of the smell goes away, until our next stop when it starts all over again. Yes the black tank is empty and the water running out of it is clear (I installed a tank flush on the back side of the tank about a year ago). Any and all thoughts are appreciated!

Are running off your water tank and pump or city water supply. If your tank is the pump running strong? Could be rubber in pump going bad.I would fill your fresh water, treat with 4 oz Clorox , run faucets and shower till you smell Clorox, let it sit over night drain, fill ,drain 3 times. Are any other faucets doing this , if not then problem is probably the toilet. Does the toilet hold water in the bowl. Could be the water valve on flush system of toilet

Running city water. Thanks for the reply. I’m starting to think it’s two different things. Charcoal from a filter and a blocked vent pipe?

Charcoal from a filter would seem the most likely. I cannot imagine any way effluent in the holding tank could be pumped into the toilet flush line.

Or corroded steel pipes. And anytime you open the ball valve on the toilet you'll get some fragrance.

If you're seeing it against the light background of the toilet it's probably coming out of any faucet as well.

When you put on the filter did you run water thru it for a minute after black stopped. There is a toilet ( I’m not sure of model #) that while flushing some liquids that should go down miss the pipe and dump in toilet when seals
start to go bad

I did not but I guess I need to.

Thanks, but it’s way beyond a fragrance. I check the vent on the roof and it does not appear to be blocked (was kinda hoping it was). Now I need to go look for the next suspect

Is your toilet a Dometic 310 , I have read where some of those models leaks between ball valve and base. For a little while the base holds the liquid until it finally over flows on the floor

How old is your charcoal filter? The become a real MB breading ground if left in place over time. Time is determined by conditions, chlorine level and water quality in the supply. 90 days usage is typicaly average but can vary a lot. Never reuse a filter from the previous season. And if you don't want charcoal in your water then flush however the odor is not from a new filter. Perhaps an old one that is a breeding ground due to removing chlorine on the inlet and feeding bugs on the outlet. Have you filled up with water containing Sulphur recently, that can provide some odorous water following a depleted filter.

The filter is actually new. First time using it. We don’t drink or cook with the water. I only use the filter to catch big stuff. Maybe I got a bad filter? Never had one do this before

Your smell is probably coming from the check valve underneath the bathroom sink. On the axis and Vegas the bathroom sink runs into the black tank not the grey. The rubber on the spring valve dries up and sticks open. You also have one under your kitchen sink. They usually last only a couple of years. Go to any hardware store that has plumbing supplies and pick a couple up. 1 1/2 ". Around $6-8.00 each.

If this is only happening when you are connected to the park yard hydrant and this is the first time it may be a bad hydrant,

Thanks! I’ll check this out
