What are you all using to route your trips, plan your stops, etc?

We are going to Boise from Lousivlle, Ky

I used google maps and Passport America for the actual route but figuring out where to stop to break the drive up into about 10hr increments is a pain

Try the 7 day trial.

Get to know it

Almost all campgrounds in the US including PPA and military.

Set your daily travel limits

I'm not pushing the "Corporate product", it's just the best RV trip planner I've used.

Thanks for posting this. Looks pretty good.

How up to date is it with campsites, traffic issues, ect?

Is it accurate with locating gas stations?

Many thanks!

John

I use the trip planning. Campground updates are as good or better than Woodalls used to be.

Last time I used the APP (1.5 years ago), it still wasn't ready for prime time.

I used to use a Garmin RV GPS for navigating but it was always crap. I used Google Maps a backup and most current traffic and gas info.

I recently switched to Sygic Caravan/Truck GPS APP and so far, so good. I still use Google Maps as secondary. Both use off-line maps so there's no relying on cell service (except for real time updates)

Sygic truck
Then
Google

Sygic has something called
Sygic travel.
My guess is it is a planner of some sort.
We don't plan farther than what's happening that day.
We had to postpone last weeks trip due to weather. No reservations were involved. Then, we did the trip backwards. No reservations were involved. We bought propane along the road as it became available. No 8 mile trip into town to find the Tractor Supply Store.

Gas station busy? We move on.
Google shows red on the road? We reroute.
Propane? As it becomes handy.(we dumped and propaned at a love's yesterday after getting gas.)

If you plan a rigid trip and your only campground choice has a septic problem then what?
Plan the destination date...then just travel.

About Yellowstone;
Just pick an in and pick an out that is convenient.
The cafeteria food at Old Faithful was excellent.

We'll be on a tight schedule. My wife and I are both self-employed so we have to get and back. I figure 3 days each way and perhaps a 4th day in the way out if we drive through Yellowstone. The conference is also 3 days.
Probably leaving Sunday arrive in Boise Wednesday. Seminar Thursday, Friday, Saturday and head home Sunday

On my way back from Tampa last week I stopped at Love's for gas and was going to top off the propane and was told they were out of it :(. I have about 1/2 tank so I wasn't concerned. It was a little chilly where we stopped in Alabama but the furnace only came on twice that night

I'm trying to plot my trip. Louisville, Ky to Grand Teton's to Yellowstone, from there to Idaho Falls and Boise.
The RVLife trip planner and Google both give really weird routes, Doubling back and not taking what appears to be direct routes.

For example, throught the Grand Tetons to Yellowstone, Old Faithful area it is routing me around everything to the west and up into Bozeman, into Yellowstone, then reversing to get to Idaho.

The map shows I80 to 191 into the Tetons, then continuing on 191 to Yellowstone which heads to Old Faithful then hits 20 which comes down to Idaho Falls, then picking up the interstate the rest of the way.
Is there some sort of issues with those roads/ mountatins that the maps won't route me that way?

Check what filters you have set. Combinations of settings like RV size, unpaved road avoidance, tolls etc.

I like to do the planning on a PC as opposed to the mobile app. You can also turn on "drag route" and manually set your route. Sometimes it's a little flakey doing double-backs depending on where you have waypoints set.

I'm using my laptop and both the RVLife trip planner & Google are mapping things oddly in that area. I don't have any filters on on either app

Google's Maps won't let you use highways that today are closed due to winter. You have to use a future date when the highway is expected to be open and then you're limited to a single day's travel planning for each segment that you map out.

Don't know if the RV Life trip planner has the same behavior or not, haven't checked.
