I'm planning a trip for late summer with our family and their motor home to Sedona then the Grand Canyon. Two RVs total and no small children. We're all over 50 and like short hikes and sightseeing. We have a tad over a week and I though maybe some members here could share their thoughts/experiences.

Old grand canyon airport for a 3 mile side trip and a mile-ish walk about. Very excellent.
Linburgh, ford, earhart, edison, wrong way, gable, Lamar, everybody who flew way back when flew in here with Ford tripowers. It's all but forgotten. A mini ghost town now.

Rent bikes in the canyon to go from El tovar to hermits rest.

El Tovar in the canyon has excellent food, well served.

There isn't SQUAT in flagstaff to bother with.

On the 180 is red canyon(or something like that) about midway between valle and flagstaff. 3 mile walk, flora that nowhere else.

On the way backlittle grand canyon
Canyon de Chelle
Then down through Payson and strawberry and get to the 17 by way of camp verde.

Or
Canyon de Chelle to the 40, west to see two guns(look it up a great stopover).
Walnut canyon east of flagstaff
The 17 south to go back home.

All are 2 to 4 mile hikes.

Thanks Duck. Seems you're the only one on our site who has anything to suggest in Arizona. I guess it's just the two of us RVing here.

Did you stay at the Trailer Village RV park in Grand Canyon? Looks pretty nice from the website.

We live on the 64 about 30 minutes south of the south rim gate of the grand canyon in the Pygmy Forest.

Depending on when you come through we might be having a
Movie Night
In the Behemoth.

We spent a lot of summer weekends at flagstaff koa escaping the heat of mesa (phoenix)
Sedona is a beautiful area be sure to see church of the red rock.
There are many hiking trails in Sedona some thru narrow canyons
The pink jeep tours will take you to some amazing areas.
Be sure to spend a day at slide rock state park the kids will love sliding down the smooth boulders in the cool mountain water.
The GC is a view every one should make.
Be prepared for hot weather high 90’s and it will be monsoon season so humidity will be up and keep informed about possible flash floods

We came down from Colorado through Moab, Monument valley and then to Kanabe UT, Dark Skies RV Park (the best RV park of our trip) from there you can day trip to the North Slope of the Grand Canyon, Brice and Zion Natl Parks. The town of Kanabe was a charm.

Kanab is a favorite of ours.
But it and the other places are nowhere near Sedona and the South Rim.

While not clear
It's fairly evident the op is coming from the south to Sedona and then to the south rim.

My spousal unit can't tell Sequoia from Yellowstone.
On a trip two holloweens ago we turned left in kansas to go to Cor de lane and we were in Minnesota before dark.

She’s not the only one. My daughter saw this in a store.

Also, 10 mile north of Sedona is the West Fork Oak Creek trailhead. A very nice hike that is not too strenuous. Oak creek canyon is beautiful.

The old copper mining town of Jerome is fun. Tuzigoot National Monument is very interesting.

Have a fun trip. We honeymooned in Sedona and the GC 41 years ago and went back in 2015.

My wife and I went to Sedona and GC 91 days after I had a kidney transplant. I can't really address the hikes though, since I was still on forearm crutches from a separate, almost non-related dual knee injury AND a broken foot. I barely made it from the Lodge to the south rim overlook! Tour busses and rental car for me on that trip. Both areas were really beautiful. This is a photo from 9 years ago today! It's the Hermits' Rest overlook in the rain. It's a vertical panorama so hopefully it posts.

Redsand, here’s a taste of Sedona to whet your appetite.

David, you were very brave so soon after your transplant. I waited 2 years after my first lung transplant before going to that altitude.

To all, don’t let your health issues get in the way of seeing this great country. I traveled with oxygen for six years before getting my second lung transplant 9 months ago.

We have been to the Grand Canyon twice. The first time we flew in from Las Vegas in a small plane so did not camp. The second time we camped at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park next door to the Grand Canyon Railway in Williams, AZ. We did that so we could board our two dogs for the day at the kennel next to the campground. We rode the train to the Grand Canyon and stayed there most of the day. It was a fun trip. Of course the train was robbed by outlaws on horses. The sheriff saved us.

When we went to Sedona we stayed at the Distant Drums RV Resort and used our toad to visit attractions in the area.

Thanks to all of you for some super ideas and suggestions. We made our home in Bullhead City so not a real long drive for us. We'll meet up with our family here then head out probably the GC area first then Sedona. Lots to see and enjoy judging by the responses here.

We lived in Havasu for many years.
And
I kept an office in Laughlin for many years.
If you Scuba, I know where the only insured paddle wheeler sank in the river...and where the secrets are in havasu and Blankenship bend.

Since you're coming that way;
That hill between you and Kingman is the hill automakers use to establish towing capacity. Might pull it just for fireside topics sake.
People like to take pictures of the gas station in hackberry ong the longest operable stretch of 66, Kingman to ashfork.
Nice burgers at the ugly little burger place in seligman.
No reason for ashfork, but take the business loop. It's two miles...and an education.
No food worth mentioning in all of williams.
Buy fuel at exit 123(where the hackberry 66 route comes back to the 40)or in Williams at the maverick or truckstop on the second exit or get gouged everywhere else.

Williams has excellent tourist shops(and nothing remarkable else). Probably the best shops in the state.
The new neighbor in our little community just opened
Poozeum in Williams.
https://poozeum.com/
Tell him the guy with the Behemoth Ranch told you. He won't know me as ducksface.
We want him to succeed.

I'm not a fan of Sedona so you're on our own after the canyon.
