Trip to Virginia coast and Chincoteague area

I've been there a couple of times, but stayed with at a really old campground in Maryland. If I remember, there was a KOA near the island. The town had a couple of good restaurants. A local directed us to the corral were ponies that needed veterinary care were kept. The park itself is very 'sparse'. To me it was a 6 out of 10 attraction.

There is a campground in the Colonial Williamsburg area that we have stayed at several times that is nice. It is very close to Colonial Williamsburg.

if you are x or current military, there are great bases available to you.
thousand trails have great places as well.
harvest host has great places.
there is at least one campground at / near Chincoteague.
there is a campground outside of Kings Dominion Va.
Chickahominy is excellent (my opinion) when boondocking.
we've done time all over there, lots of nice places. now is a great time to be there, before it gets hot.
if any of that sounds interesting, please contact me for more specifics.
