Hello Fellow Thor Owners, I own a 2018 Thoe 3601 Aria, is there a way to deactivate the brake lights when the engine exhaust braking is active? I don't mind this but I had several drivers come along side me after a long downhill grade say that I'm riding my brakes too much even though I am not using the brake petal at all. 90% of the time, the Exhaust brakes is enough to keep the rig at a safe downhill speed. I know other rig owners and their brake lights don't turn on when the engine brakes are active. Let me know if anybody knows a way to disable the brake lights only when the exhaust brakes are active.

I have never heard of the brake lights coming on when using the exhaust brake. Two completly different systems.

People tell me at many/most stops I make, "Your headlights are on."

I say, "Thanks, they go off in a few minutes."

I'd say, "Thanks. They show that my jake is on and I am braking (whether the pedal is depressed or not) and slowing down/holding."

It should be programmable by an authorized truck shop AND has been a thing since 2001(ish).
It'll cost you a diagnostic fee and their minimum labor time. Expect $300+.
Research before you make te appointment just in case there are other programmable things you might want to change/add/delete.

There is no need to undo a feature that features what is happening.

(Potentially...if you turn your wipers on your running lights turn on also. Does yours do this?)

Does your trans hold a downshift?
How long have you owned this rv?

I wasn’t aware that brake lights came on , but if they do, then that fine I rather let cars behind me know I’m slowing down then then explaining while exchanging insurance info after they hit me and say I have no brake lights so it’s my fault.

Yep, they do. The drivers that are saying you are riding the brakes too much just don't know what is happening. The exhaust brake is braking and lights are there for that purpose. I would not de-activate them.

That is an adjustable setting in the ecm, you can set it for brake lights during Jake or off during Jake, also can be set for Jake activation on either throttle release or brake pedal Activation.
You have to have the software for engine, like Cummins would use Cummins insight, I changed by brake lights to come on with Jake when I had access to that software and now wish I wouldn’t have done it.

Thank you, I'll reach out to my service guy.
No, running lights to not come on when the wipers are on.
Trans trans can hold the speed depending on the grade
I've had this rig for about 2 years now

The tech will tell you what the cool kids have programmed.
I bet there're fifty things from wiper speed to running lights to downshift and air pressure and start sequences and alarms and...
