Hi everyone, we are 5r owners and winter in Florida for the season, down in the everglades. We are looking for a rig to commute between upstate NY and Florida while seeing the country, taking 6-8 weeks to get down there and 6-8 weeks to get home. I love the Axis 24.1, we want small, we want twin beds, we want ample shower room and comfy recliners, well 2/4 aint bad, we understand the give and take but the twin beds is high for us. Size is high for us, shower is meh, we can always dump the couch for recliners. I want a 2015-2019 axis 24.2, low miles. I am not worried about the ford components. I have heard some scuttlebutt on the the Thor components (construction issues) but, quite frankly who doesn't have issues. So whats the word from the owners of 2015-19 Axis 24.1's? Any comments on quality of the box? Thanks! Scott

It's a kit.
They lend you a cheap tv until you decide which tv you want.
From experience;
After a year or two of ownership the kinks are all worked out.

Rvchecklist is a purchase app. Use it.
Take a rv inspector with you for purchase.
I don't know of any specific 24.1 maladies except a few of us had a short electrical line cause minor trouble in the slide but a used one will have had this fixed.
Sporadically, some are e350 and some are e450. I don't know if you care or if there is a real-life measurable difference.

My signature thread has a bunch of mods I did to mine to make it mine.

I'm 6'4" and 213 to 230 depending on the time of year.
I have no problem with that shower.

2018 is the last one with manual switches and no central computer control. 2018 and 2019 have the nice curved cabinets and bigger kitchen windows.
2015 and 2016(¿) have the taller windshield.

Whe my upholstery is fine, experience says to be prepared to redo any vinyl in the rv. If it has already been reupholstered, pay more and enjoy.

Drop the tire pressure lower than those folks who don't know will tell you to, get some seat time, and they ride/handle just fine.
Ours fits us well enough we use the slide only when showing our 24.1 to folks interested in buying one.
We have two confirmed sales and don't know how many others.

I couldn't be given an rv with a bed in the slide out.

Change your title to reflect that you want prepurchase info for on a 24.1

When ou find one post it here prepurchase.
No one is going to swoop in and buy it out from under you.
Ask many many questions.

Would you be towing a vehicle to get around so once your set up no breaking down. I would think it would easy to take out queen and add 2 twin beds together or separate on the sides with common tables between.

An advantage to a 24.1 is the e450 is seriously UNDERWEIGHT. Those folks who are rv overweight with just people in it...that ain't me babe.

We get by without a towed because we don't hook up to sewer or water(we run internally until leaving, then we dump and fill) and we don't spread out inside the rv.
(We are casually looking for a towed. A classic small car or a zr2 tracker with locking hubs...needles...haystacks...)

We can put the things we store in the shower back in the shower from where we stashed them on the front seats and be gone in a minute.
It's nothing for us to make a grocery run or go to an antique store.

Well thank you everyone. I am a soon to retire Nurse PRactitioner and we are looking for a a vehicle/combo to travel in and retire. We are avid bike riders and have a couple of e-bikes now that ride very well and have some power when we need it. We are going to try using that for transportation to start. Our first few "loops" will be xploring rail trails and surrounding communities. When we start heading west we will need to consider a toad, I am looking specifically for 2015-18 vehicles to hope the kinks are worked out. I have been in Class C's and 5th wheels as well as TT for over 4 decades, and do a lot fo my own maintenance, roof, slides, etc. The schwinteck is not my favorite but it is what it is. I drive a 2014 F350 with 90k miles and it is great, I am going smallish for convenience getting into smaller parks and grocery stories blah blah blah. Will also add a clam and perhaps a couple of zero gravity chairs for outdoor space. We have a good 3-5 years of this before we are both too old to keep doing this crap :). Any of the rigs I go look at I plana. couple of hour sof inspection. Starting with the roof, If the roof has issues I am out. Then looking for water damage and so on. I have least worries about the motor and drive train. We hd a 31' Class C on the 450 and it was under powered. I assume a 25 footer on the 450 should be pretty reasonable, but it isn't a race. If we decide to toad, I will look up the 2015-18 towables and find one to add, go used or go home :). Duck, thanks for the information I will go through it and see what looks like fun. We are very "spread out" in our 5r in the everglades. Kayaks, a 21' skiff outdoor patio furniture, rods reels etc. Going to really try to keep this underpacked. A couple of FW rods and reels, some chairs, clam, and outdoor cook station. One rule we follow is no cooking in the rig. So a single convection top and air fryer should handle 90% of our needs with a small weber q1000. Leaving smokers at home. I am hoping to go look at the rig in honesdale PA on FB next weekend if it is still there. Most of the rigs are under 20k miles. Thanks again everyone.

Unfortunately, not all 24.1s are on the E450 chassis.
My 24.1 is on an E350 and love it. I am getting 9.5-10.2 MPG going 60-65 MPH and it runs super smooth. I've weighed my rig full on my way out to a trip, and then empty on my way back from the trip. All weights by axle are still under what the max is. I do not take a lot of stuff I don't use because it adds weight and if I find I need something, I'll just have to buy it (seldom happens). I also find that I don't need a towed vehicle because the 24.1 is small enough for small cities and I just have to unplug from shore power and take off. less than 20 minutes to be ready to leave.

So what modifications to the sway cntrol and steering are "must do's" Is there a thread about this somewhere? Scott

None.
Do none until you have 5,000
Miles of seat time.
90%+ of rvs do not have a single suspension mod and 99% of all e450/e350 do not.

Check what your capability is as a driver, then consider mods.

Suspension changes are often a placebo.

Rave reviews are sometimes justification.

Some are real measurable advantages.
I'll say most are not an advantage when cost/outcome is weighed.

There are many threads on this subject here. Some are very recent. Some are 24.1 specific. Do a search fpr 24.1 and you will probably find some.
