Hi All. I am seeking your guidance if you are an owner or previous owner of an Axis / Vegas 24.1 or 25.2, or similar floor plan.

We are planning to down size from our current 41 ft DP to a smaller , more nimble MH but one with some of the similar amenities. We have of late focused on the 24.1/25.2 units primarily because of size but also because of some features like the Class A windshield and only one slide.

If you are a current or past owner for at least a year (so you have some experience using it) Please advise your thoughts. In particular concerning build quality, A/C noise (have heard many negative comments on this), Things we should know/be aware of going in.

Your advise will be greatly appreciated as we decide to follow this path or chose another.

Do a search for Axis or Vegas. More reading than you'll have time for. Add the model (like 24.1) to narrow to the model you're interested in.

Add the year too, that line has been out for over 10 years. Impression on a 2014 may not be the same as for a 2024.

We are on our 4th season with our 2021 Axis 24.1.

Perfect layout for two, although a small person or child will fit in the overhead bed.

Handles well, gets 12 mpg on Interstates.

Thor’s installation quality is terrible.

David

Our 24.1 suits us. It fits in our shed, it is roomy enough for 2 for a couple weeks and just enough for a 3rd person on a short term basis (picked up and took our son on a 3 night jaunt). The AC is pleasant to make white noise and works OK in fairly hot weather. The build on ours has not caused very much exasperation. I am handy and knew going in that most RV's would need some tweeking...nothing too drastic.

The 24.1 shower is very small....very much small. Especially for adults.
The driver seat requires special training to get it to swivel the 3/4 around that it does and it won't lean back when it is swiveled. So we don't sit in it except to drive.

I think the factory tires are really a stupid choice They give virtually no leeway in hauling capacity. This does not bother everyone. We bought wheels and installed 19.5 inch G rates tires. Gas tank size is good for us. Try it before you buy is smart. If that is possible. For us it was not. We would buy again.

I second that Thor’s installation quality is terrible, but to be fair, so are most RV manufacturers these days, and Thor puts them out like Mc Donald's puts out Chicken McNuggets. I do enjoy my Vegas 24.3, but it can be a painful process if you have numerous QC issues. Be warned, no coach is trouble-free.

Excellent Excellent camping vehicle. Many great options based on size & price.
Drives well. No chassis mods, 33,000 miles, tested often driving 75 MPH.

We had a 2016 24.1 on e-450 chassis. Bought new in 16, traded in 2023 when we needed more space. 44k miles, 1 set of commercial rib tires ( higher wt rating), no issues. Minor meatball stuff like inset on kitchen cabinet popping loose, clear silconed all of them. Would still have if 2nd dog (runt of litter) matched size of other runt of litter. Most of my miles towing 5500 lb open car trailer with drag car. Only real change was Roadmaster damper. Great machine overall, had it in sub zero a few times. Whomever got, got solid machine.

Thanks for the input. Concerning the 19.5" tires, I've heard this else where. Did you have to modify the body to do this?

Had we seen a 25.2 when buying it would have been VERY high on our list. Love that shower size... provided has a door not a curtain. We were very green then, but we're very happy with our class C.

We did not have to make any changes. The front tires can turn to full lock on both sides with no rubbing.

We did need to make 2 tweeks probably caused by assembly of the coach. On the rear passenger side the wheel molding forward of the rear tire was glued on a little lopsided and we removed it and re-glued. This increased the clearance when we hit bumps.

And one rear mup flap bracket needed to be bent about 1/2 and inch rearward to not rub. It can be hand bent. The other side was just fine without bending.

With the new G rated tires, I do believe we have more load capacity than our motorhome has room for. Tire maker charts show we need 72 lb psi for our max load. For us this was a good safety upgrade. I believe it greatly reduces the chance of tire blow out.

Happy, did you have to do anything to the speedometer/odometer to correct for the larger diameter tires?

Also how much did your ground clearance increase.

And finally, any problem with the duallies given that the 19.5 wheels/tires are wider?

David

I agree with others about Thor's build quality. I have a 2017 Axis 24.1. I now have a list of repairs to make. I've already replaced the windshield. It was very expensive, took weeks to procure and have shipped to an installer close to my home. Installation cost was expensive on top of that. I've also replaced to captain chairs up front. The vinyl on the old ones flaked off something terrible. The floor has a couple of soft spots and my awning has a tear. It runs great though!

I’ve got 245/70R19.5 load G Goodyear G670. The minimum inflation is 80 psi.

Jimbo, I know you would have had to replace the rims when going up to 19.5" tires but did you have to change the wheel hubs are well? My understanding is that the stock wheels have 8 lug rims but the 19.5" require a 10 lug rim.

If you like the 24.1, check out the new 26.2. It has practically the same floor plan and specs but it is about 18" longer overall so the shower is a rectangle shape instead of a corner shower so it has more room. It also has theater seats instead of the couch, even though I prefer to lay on my couch instead of theater seats.

As he said, others might not see the need for such a thing.

You're going down the wrong research hole with these wheels.

I'm considering a purchase thing.

The 24.1 is very underweight As a unit.

Being close to load limit is not a thing.

Good point. I am unfortunately easily drown down such rabbit holes.

Back to my main OP, I realize ALL motor homes and RVs in general can have issues and need maintenance above and beyond oil change and tire rotation. With our current DP I am routinely tightening screws, have fixed trim and cabinets, done oil, coolant and transmission fluid replacements, changed the refrigerator, head lights, etc. I was more concerned about chronic issues such as bad sub floors or manufacture related roof failures, etc. Also a but concerned over non-standard mattress size.

For those of us who have RV'ed for a while, there are going to be issues in any "house" moving down the road.

Any seamstress in her first month of learning can alter a sheet size.

We use our 24.1 as two beds not the king.
Standard size sheets fit it.

I am 6'4" and I sleep on the passenger side. You can either cut a hole in the closet for your feet as I had planned or take off that insipid accordian door and sleep with your feet in the aisle.

There are no problems with mine I can't handle.
The shower is not a thing for us.
The new 26.2 or whatever it is, is a 24.1 with a larger shower and a tad more length.

I can use the rv perfectly without using the slide. We seldom seldom open the slide.

Murphy beds and slides that interfere with the Floorplan when closed are a compromise and more trouble than needed.

There's plenty of axis mod stuff in my signature thread.
I've added additional bins and I've reinforced two bins to hold 1,000lbs.

Ours drove just fine without modification.

I have found nothing to my disliking about our 24.1
