Want your impression as an owner of the Thor Axis/Vegas

expect poor quality

We have a 2023 26ft Chateau. Build quality is poor both in terms of workmanship and materials. Prepare to fix multiple items. For example our windshield was cracked upon deliver, the water heater did not work, the water pump failed, paneling (really glorified cardboard) detached, the entertainment system works only when you sacrifice a goat, backup camera often will not come, etc. Design is good but quality is poor in my experience.

Thanks for the additional information. Your novel approaches concerning bedding is well noted. I am only 6ft but admittedly I do not like the feeling of "hanging off" the end. I see the 24.1 has two 38X75" or essentially standard twin mattresses so I am sure I could learn to live with that.

As to slides, our current rig has 3 but we often just put out two (one is in bedroom and one in the living) but if it is just an overnight stop or there in bad weather we leave the slides in. I think we can adapt to either the 24.1 or 25.2. For us, I am not sure if the added length of the 26.1 adds enough to interior space to justify the added length/cost.

That is the rub, isn’t it. I believe that the 24.1 is the optimum layout for a couple. Adding a foot to improve what I think is a quite usable shower with the 26.2 just isn’t worth it.

A few questions were asked about 19.5 tires on an Axis.
We have 225/70/19.5 tires and they add no extra width. They give a lift of .75-1.00 inch to the differential and entry stairs. Our speedo is about 5 miles off at 65-70 mph. I believe a private shop can correct this. Ford dealer said he can't due to policy. We found 19.5 inch wheels that have identical bolt pattern at Buytrucktires.com.

This thread gives a lot of the information from the poster that I first heard this idea from: https://www.thorforums.com/forums/f27/largest-tire-size-your-axis-vegas-factory-16in-rims-30957.html

Jtracer is the one who to my knowledge first did this.

We owned a 2018 Vegas 24.1 for 2&1/2 years, took it out over 20 times. Easy to drive, and the split bed was fine. As noted the shower is small, but usable. My only real complaint was having to extend the slide out to set up the dining table. I was pretty happy with the overall build, no problems with floor or roof. Really enjoyed it!

Hi, OP, we've had our '16 25.2 for about 4 years now and we love it. We've had large, A class RV'S before, and, when our 2nd son got too old to come away we looked for something smaller. Tried an Axis 24.1, but swmbo didn't like the rear beds or the tiny bathroom, so a 25.2 came up. It suits us perfectly, even tho' we're usually 3 as our eldest, 6ft Chris, was oxygen starved at birth. He uses the front, drop bed and likes it there leaving us with privacy in the rear slideout bedroom.
Build quality ? Well, they're all pretty much the same I reckon, unless you blow a million $$$, but, so far I'm happy with it. Of course, there's the odd thing that can break or go wrong, but I've been able to repair without too much ability. Also, I've found it easy to add extras and improvements myself, there's nothing complicated about changing the sink or adding jacks, solar or better blinds etc.
It's happy at 65/68 mph and at that, the Triton is only doing 2100rpm, although I have added Airide bags to the front to help stability.
In short, go for it, much easier to own than a 36ft + RV. Good luck.

We have a 2017 Vegas 24.1, bought used in 2019 with 2300 miles. The quality is typical Thor, we have not had any major issues, outside finish fading, tail lights not sealed. The only negatives I would have is a very harsh ride, built on the Ford E-450 HD van chasis and it is noisy inside, a lot of engine whine. The V-10 engine has plenty of power, 10 MPG. Easy to drive, maneuver in parking lots, that is what sold un the unit. I would suggest an alignment, HD sway bars , noise matting anywhere you can put it. I have used maybe 30 lbs. of Dyna mat. Great for two people.

Vegas 24.3

Vegas 24.3 has best bathroom for size. Across rear. Large closet in middle. Plenty of storage drawers, cabinets. Murphy bed gives more room during day. We enjoy it, health reasons not using much. Probably gonna sell. 2021 19,000 miles.

24.1

Hi, we have a 2018 Axis 24.1. It's a love/hate relationship. Love the way it handles, has plenty of power to tow our Honda CRV. It has enough room for two, a big step down from our 33 foot Rexhall but we carried way more stuff than we needed. Downside for me is general build quality, still chasing a roof leak. Floor seems solid, I added a small step between the rear twin beds, 1x3 on edge along side walls and one down the middle with 1/2 plywood cover, very sturdy and helps my wife reach the upper cabinets in the back. I have no concerns with noise from a/c.

How comfortable is the sofa for lounging? Nice floorplan! I like the rear bath.

The sofa on our 2021 Axis 24.1 was too upright. The back needed to lay back a few more inches to be comfortable.

I accomplished that by replacing the hinges that let the back fold forward. I drilled the new ones out a half inch or so which lets it lay back.

Still plenty of room for the table and a portable solar panel I use in the winter to keep the batteries topped up.

The sofa is now plenty comfortable given its length. I can read a book lying down, but have to prop my feet up on the arm.

I agree with others about Thor's build quality. I have a 2017 Axis 24.1. I now have a list of repairs to make. I've already replaced the windshield. It was very expensive, took weeks to procure and have shipped to an installer close to my home. Installation cost was expensive on top of that. I've also replaced to captain chairs up front. The vinyl on the old ones flaked off something terrible. The floor has a couple of soft spots and my awning has a tear. It runs great though!

Insurance covers the windshield?
Awning use awning repair tape

Amen!

We've owned our 2017 Axis 25.3 4 years and have had ZERO-NADA issues. Very nimble, easy to drive, park and setup. Construction could've been done or a better quality control. But we have had no issues like others.

Our 2017 THOR 25.2 is great! What I like best is that there are NO side slides to upset the center of gravity. Driving is good. It's a truck! Anyone who thinks that these vehicles drive like a mushy luxury vehicle is quite mistaken.

It lacks a bit on lower storage space. But for two people and several cats, it's just fine.

Not a bad coach

We had a 2018 25.4. Traded it in 2022. For starts, it is a good starter and will come with issues. That said mods are a must for handling and towing as Happy pointed out. Storage was adequate unless you bring your house camping. Will get push from tractors passing. We did sleep 5 comfortable on week long trip. Ours had 25000 miles on trade and we were satisfied with what it gave us. New adventures and journeys put us in a more livable coach.

We have a 2015 ACE 30.1 Bunkhouse layout, sleeps 6. Ford V10 really moves. We realize that for the most part it is just my wife and I and it is a bit large for our purposes. There are serious limitations when you are over 18,000 pounds, 12'2" and 30 feet long. We live on the East coast, and see now that unless you stick to bigger roads, and sites that are prepped for bigger rigs, you can have some harrowing experiences. Like dirt roads with no berm. Bridges that are 2" more than you are. Taking a right turn at an intersection with no room to swing, and waiting a few entire traffic light cycles because the left lane people will not give you room to tail swing. Living in it is great! Highway is great! We dont do campgrounds, mostly festivals and fairs, so traveling can be tricky!
