water heater by pass

Hi,
this is my first TT and started to winterize travel. Was going to blow out lines and put some antifreeze down the traps and such. Compressor had issues. Was going to turn pump on and suck it thru the lines however can not find by pass knob.

Have 2006 zt 2710BH my pump is under fridge behind panel has a knob to turn for pump to suck out the antifreeze. But can not find the anything else. I did see a in line valve near water heater when I turn it , still came out of heater, think it a different valve. Any ideals on where it could/might be? I still going to try blowing out lines with different compressor.

Find the water heater. Get access to the backside, usually through a cabinet. Normally, cold water will be blue or white, while the hot side is red. Look for an input on the cold side to the water heater. Turn that off. You should also see a bypass valve, that goes "across" the water heater pipes, i.e. from cold to hot. That is the bypass open that. Now you can drain your water heater, it is out of the circuit. You can blow air (30 psi max) into your cold supply, and it will blow out of both the cold and hot taps now that the bypass is open. Good luck.

the WH is under rear storage bin, when I looked in side the compartment I could see a in line valve . when I turned it I turned water back on to check to see if this was by pass, it was not water came out of heater had drain out.
Guy helping me said it looked like valve a upper / lower side of tank shut off?? Have not crawled completely in and look at the side of tank, maybe it could be there?

I am planning on using another compressor and blowing out lines and adding some down traps and toilet.

The only way you are going to know for sure, is to crawl in there with a flashlight and look.

As mentioned there are TWO valves, One in the main water to the tank and another across the lines that are connected to the tank. You need to turn both to isolate the W/H. In 2006, the water lines are white not colored.

The supply to the heater should be closed for the winter. That is, the valve handle should be perpendicular to the tube. The crossover should be open, that is, handle in line with the tubing. In spring, reverse both.
