Hi All,

I've got a leak in my water heater. I've got a 6 gallon Dometic in my 2021 Class C now, what are some of the best brands of replacements? I've considered a tankless but I don't think I want to dive into that at this time.

Thanks!

Are you sure the leak isn't coming from a loose fitting? It's possible... but those thanks are VERY robust and reliable, often lasting 20 years or more.

Domestic uses aluminum tanks which don't need an annode rod, eliminating that headache. If replacement is your only option, IMO I'd replace it with a Domestic. But first - make SURE it's not just a leaking fitting.

I haven't pulled it out yet, but where the water is coming from I believe has to be a cracked tank. However, before spending money, that's a good suggestion, I'll try to get it out this week.

Are you the original owner? Below freezing climate... can you confirm the tank was fully drained for winterization?

The only scenario I can think of for an aluminum tank to crack is the tank was full of water and possibly pressurized during a prolonged freeze.

the upgrade path I could see would be to go to a 10 gallon tank but I doubt that would fit. I wouldn't consider shifting to another brand (Suburban) an upgrade.

We are the original owner, and I can confirm if it's cracked it's probably due to a neglected winterization...I always seem to learn my lessons the hard way...I'll report back when I get it out.
