water running from the fresh water tank overflow line

Hi - this is a circumstance I've not experienced before.

We're set up with full hookups and decided we stink enough and should take a shower. My wife got halfway through and I suddenly realized that I'd not drained the holding tanks in a while and so went outside to do that while she was finishing up (just the gray water - and I did close it again when done).

Then I went to shower and of course while in there my wife came in to tell me that there was water pouring out under the driver's side. When I went to look I found that water was draining from the fresh water tank overflow line. It drained for quite a while and eventually stopped, and we've not seen a reoccurrence, at least since yesterday morning.

Could all of the above events be related? If so, what would explain it? If not, what could have caused the overflow? We've been stationary for several days so it's not due to shifting around.

Crap in the water pump.

Seems to have sealed.

Many times just running water through the pump will clear the issue.

Thank you. We’re hooked up to city water and everything is properly set on the water management system. Under those circumstances could the water pump still be an issue? We’ve had to replace both it and said water management panel (or whatever you call the panel to which you attach the city water hose). Both were found defective previously.

If you have the multi-position Kantleak valve, it has been known to have issues with the O-rings and allowed backflow from city water to the FW tank as well.

As Ted said above -- common occurrence. Occurs when on city water. I think the water pressure may affect one of the check valves in the pump (even though the pump isn't running) and allows water to back flow through the pump into the fresh water tank.

On my 2015 Vegas 24.1 I've had this happen to me on 4 different occurrences. All I did to correct it was to turn off the valve at the park post. Turn on the water pump. Open a faucet and let the water run for a few minutes. Then turn the park water back on and turn the pump off.

I also then opened the fresh water low point drain and drain the water from the tank since we don't travel with water in that tank.

I had similar on our Plazzo I thought I had dial set to city water but it over filled water tank drained on ground. I ended up turning dial and reset never happened again.

Thanks! I’d checked the settings, turned off the city line, turned the dials to dry camp setting then turned them back to city and turned city line back on. Haven’t tried turning on pump and running a faucet yet. I’ll do that next.

Try turning all the valves while water is running at a faucet (or two) in the motorhome. You should hear a difference in sound of the water flow. It's possible a chunk of debris got stuck in a valve.

I own a Tiburon with a tankless hot water tank. If you turn the valve under the shower faucets it circulates the water through the heater, by passes the shower faucets and ends up in the fresh water tank. It is setup that way so when you dry camp you don't waste water waiting for the water to warm up before entering the shower. If you are hooked up to sewer don't open the by pass valve just let the water run into your grey tank

Problem with that is we’re sometimes at state parks without septic. And we’ve never seen it before in 15 months of use. But thank you and we’ll test it out next trip

I should have asked if you use the valve below the faucet handles that circulates the water through the water heater. I found that if hou are hooked up to city water and turn the dirverter valve the water goes into the fresh tank. When the fresh tank is full the water exits the water tank by way of the overflow hose.

I don’t have that system on my MH but thank you for the information about that valve should only be used while dry camping. Too bad they couldn’t add a pump just to circulate back to water heater system that way while in shower and I turn off water to soap down I wouldn’t have run water till temperature comes back. Some times we learn new things while reading other issues.

Yes we do. I suppose it’s possible that we arrived at the park with a full fresh water tank (we don’t always know how many dry camp days we’ll have between stops). Based on what you say we could have overflowed the fresh water tank by recirculating.

We are winterizing soon and won’t be able to test this out until January down in Florida. I’ll make sure we have an empty fresh water tank and will run the recirculator as normal when taking a shower. If it continues to overflow we’ll try running the pump for 15 minutes or so as suggested in previous posts, to try and reset the check valve.
