We are still learning to use our Thor Windsport 34F. Is there a way to fill the fresh tank from the City Water Connection or do you have to use the outside fill port?

Our class C had a water control panel, and if I wanted to fill the tank from the city water connection, it was simply a matter of flipping a switch.

Can you fill your tanks from city water or do you have to stand out in the rain while you fill your tank?

Thanks. Not the answer I was hoping for. This might have been a deal killer had I known you had to stand outside to fill the fresh water tank. I camp year-round in western Washington. I much preferred my 2002 class C over my 2014 Thor Windstar for this issue.
You'd think that in a class A, Thor would have figured a way to use the City Water connection to fill the fresh water tank. I give them a Fail on this.

There is another thread asking the same question i just saw but now can't find. in that one several members had offered their work around for this issue.

You really should know you don't have a Windstar by now.

similar thread is called "fresh water fill", older thread but some recent activity should be able to search it out.

If your water tank has an overflow tube, like my 20L has, you could conceivably replace the gravity fill, or add a fitting that is the same as the city water one, with a check valve.
If the overflow is next to the gravity fill, you would have to leave that door open while filling from new fitting. You need to explore that a little.

My Rialta also had gravity fill with overflow under the same door- so that would have to be open to allow you to know it's really full, or have someone inside watching the tank.

The 20AT had a gravity fill, and using a filler tube was ok, but I do prefer the 20L with two check valve inputs, city and water. I use my phone app, and listen for overflow to spill out to know when to stop filling. No problems.
There are no rules, just adaptations... I am up to 80+ now.
Look here for all types of fill valves- just be sure to seal with butyl or dicor.

Fresh Water fill

Do you have a water miser in shower? You can always use that. Just Switch the miser lever in your shower. If you do not, it's an easy install for the future. Blue Compass installed one for me in half hr.

Hope that helps

That's an option, but whether it's an easy half hour install depends on the layout of your RV's plumbing.

If you have easy access to the fresh water tank it's not too hard to install a diverter valve (3-way) in a pressurized cold supply line close to the tank. Drill a hole in the top of the tank and pop a 1/2" pex line in. Works just like a ShowerMiser but doesn't run hot water into the fresh tank. Just flip the handle and the pressurized city water flows into the tank.
