I agree, there are some other ways of doinga generator that will work and save you money. As they say different strokes for different folks.We're fortunate right now to bein a positionto spend the extra money for the convenience of having an on board generator. I like the idea offlipping a switch and having power without messing around with cords or power lines.
But as I said earlier convenience does cost money and the wonderful thing about campersis their resourcefulness. In the old days, if you showed me 2 trees, a rope and a tarp....I'd show you a tent.

I liked what KR2011 said..He ordered the generator prep but not the generator. I've seen several RV generators on ebay that would work on one of these trailer for $1200 or less with some going for around $500.

We presently have the Dual Honda's. They work great, but a real PITA to haul out, setup, and chain down. Then you have to let them cool off before storeing them, so we opt'd for the on-board gen. Already have a buyer for the Hondas so some of the sting of the on-board price tag has been taken away. Will be nice if traveling in 90 plus temps, to fire up the gen and turn on the AC about an hour before we reach our destination and have a nice cool rig to relax in when we get there. To each their own.

We are looking at the 36RL and the 38BR. We have never seen the 38BR. We have been waiting for 3 weeks for the BR to get to the dealer. Has anyone seen it and owners of the RL why did you get the RL over the BR?

We like our rear picture window and think for us the BR would just become a junk room, plus the recliners are not in the best positions for TV viewing and we like the full size sofa with the RL and the BR is only 1 foot longer, so some of that BR space looks to be taken from the LR area. I guess if you had a couple of scooters or something similar you might be able to carry them there and sort of make it a mini toy hauler.

Initially, I ordered my RL with just the generator prep. I was going to bargain shopand installthe same model as the factory... only cheaper. Then, in speaking with Andy Wesdorp, I found out that thefactory Onan Marquis Gold LP Generatorweighs 278 lbs. ThenI thought about the LP plumbing, the exhaust system, the electrical connections, and whether the switch & monitor would still be in the monitor panel. Testing it? The warranty & service? Ugh... I thought "How much money will I be saving by buying it and installing myself?? I couldn't wait to get to the phone to add the factory option to my order!


With the Gen Prep, 40lb tanks and the Generator itself -it's such apricey option though. No wonder we are tempted to be do it yourselfers...

Hi,
We ordered the genny because we sat and watched others in the Walmart parking lot running A/C, doing e-mail, etc. while we sat in our rental motorhome with a Coleman lantern last summer.
I am a little worried about how "quiet" they are when running... guess I have to wait and find out.

We got the BR with the office configuration shown in one of the line drawings. Desk is same colour and quality of wood as the rest of the unit for 775 CDN$. I plan to full time and really don't want the fireplace to be my office when I am surfing this Forum...

The Jayco Designer had the large picture window in the rear and let a lot of heat/cold through. We ended up covering it up as most of the campsites we were in did not enhance the window. We wanted the RE because it gives more side windows for beter viewing of the lake, yet not too big as to heat/cool the coach when you don't want it to. The coaches with the TV that moves up and down just did not catch our eye - too many extra moving parts. The RE was perfect for us - but then that is why they so many different floor plans.

Where we winter, we're backed up against a cow pasture pointed north, so it doesn't get the sun, but does allow lots of light and with only cows out there we leave the shade open 24/7. So yep different strokes for different folks.
