I’m accustomed to pulling wheels, cleaning, and greasing bearings. I researched the IS maintenance procedure, and all that was mentioned was to grease the zerk fittings on the underside of each system; nothing about bearings. Are these wheels permanently lubed?

No, there are inner and outer bearings just like you are accustomed too. I do not push grease through the zero fitting under the Center cap. It only goes to the back bearing and I am concerned that it could blow out the rear seal.

Thanks, ryno. I have all of my manuals, but none suggest/recommend pulling and greasing bearings. I’ve had mine almost 2 years and about 15k miles. So, it’s time.

Slade told me to grease moreryde at 5k and wheel bearings at 10k.He does not use the wheel bearing grease serts either.

I hit the zerks a couple of shots every 6 months on the suspension and hitch. I greased the bearing up really good with Mobil 1 grease a little over 2 years ago. I check to make sure that there is no bearing slop every month or so. Old style rotors with the same bearing set up would go easily until brakes were needed or there was play detected. That is how I am gagging mine.

The system works GREAT!!! Have someone spin the tire and pump away with a MANUAL grease gun. The grease WILL start coming out the front. Keep wiping the old grease away til the fresh grease appears. While the wheel is off the ground do the push pull at opposite ends of the tire to check for bearing play.

DON'T use a pneumatic grease gun as these are most likely going to blow out your seal.

I have to wait until my SIL can come up to assist me; maybe this weekend. I want to rotate the tires and do the bearings at the same time. Today, I replaced both fuel filters, took an engine oil and trannie fluid sample, and sent those to the lab. I’m curious about the results after this 5k mile trip, up and down long, winding, 8 and 10% grades.

That seems like WAY to much grease. To fill that whole void with grease seems just not right. But I will watch that video.

And done properly there is no reason to do it every year or 5000 miles.

This is my thinking. Plus using good quality grease also.
