Hello everyone,
Below is my checklist for ACE 29D Winterizing:
1) Drain fresh water tank.
2) Drain hot water heater. (1 1/16 plug on Suburban - Open top valve to let air in)
Put plug back in after drained.
3) Open all faucets and shower.
4) Open outdoor kitchen low point drain.(Behind drawer of Outdoor Kitchen)
5) Turn on faucet of outdoor shower (Low point drain)
6) After water lines have drained close low point drains and faucets.
7) Bypass water heater - under Master Bed.
8) Pour 3 gallons of antifreeze into fresh water tank. (I do this instead of connecting directly to water pump. I do not care about the water taste as I do not drink the water)
9) Turn on water pump and let pressurize lines. Make sure faucets are closed.
10) Open each faucet until antifreeze comes out.
11) Flush toilet until antifreeze comes out.
12) Pour 1 gallon of anifreeze into toilet and flush (may have to flush 2 or 3 times) to get antifreeze into black tank.
13) Make sure all drain traps have antifreeze in them.
14) Run outside kitchen macerator pump to flush drain to sink.
15) Run black tank macerator pump.

Only issue I see is the (only) 3 gallons in the fresh water tank. That would barely cover the bottom of the tank and my not make it up to the suction point inside the tank. Often, this suction line is a bit above the bottom. Why wouldn't you just use the jugs along with the pump suction line designed for that? You can do what you're talking about but it will take probably 10 gallons in the fresh water tank to complete the task. If the fresh tank runs out you will pump air into the lines during flushing.

Also, pouring 1+ gallons in the toilet is a waste if your black tank is empty. The amount you use to flush the lines will put enough in the black tank to cover it, as well as fill the water line running to the toilet. Just flush the toilet enough till you see pink.

Any system you use will work as long as every line gets filled with pink.

Thanks for the reply -
The fresh water tank is irregularly shaped at the bottom and can be viewed from inside the storage bin on the right front outside of the RV - after adding the 3 gallons the pink liquid is 4 - 5 inches deep in the tank section where the pickup is. The pump pick is well below that. Also if using the pump pickup method I am afraid if there is residual water in the pickup line to the tank it will freeze. This may not be an issue as the water would probably drain back into the tank - but then there is water in the tank that can freeze and break the drain valve...
I could probably get away with adding less than a gallon in the toilet - the reason I add so much is I like to run the macerator pump in the black tank to make certain it does not freeze (expensive) so I want to make certain there is enough liquid to do that...

If there's one thing most important...save the macerator toilet. I didn't realize mine was a macerator type until the day we did the walk through prior to purchase. Assuming got me. Now...I wouldn't have it any other way. I've come to appreciate the value so much...especially the no smell in the bathroom and the dumping process is so much cleaner. It's the same toilet system that's standard in many mega yachts...and they are pricey to replace. Good luck with it...antifreeze is cheap in the big picture.

Does your fridge have an ice maker?
