Ok. 2017 Miramar 34.1 with 30,000 miles here.
I got the E05/OL Error Code on my Xantrex XM 1800 Inverter indicating Overload shutdown. The RV was on shore power outside my house when an electric storm caused my house lights to flicker. I did have a surge protector in use, but I fear the storm did permanent damage to the unit anyway.
I researched the posts on this site and tried everything suggested in an attempt to reset, with no luck.
Assuming the unit is toast, I shopped around for a replacement. It looks as though I can buy a similar Xantrex for around 700 dollars, but now I’m wondering if I really need one.
On shore power, everything still seems to be working fine. Same is true on Generator power. We travel in the RV only twice during the year (once when we drive 600 miles to Florida in November, then again when we come home in March). We have often made the trip with the generator running the entire time and we will likely never boondocks.
So my question is, what trouble can I expect if I travel as described, powering the refrigerator under either generator or shore power?
Will running without the Xantrex ruin my batteries or do other damage that I haven’t considered? What does the Xantrex really do besides power the fridge when I stop at Walmart.
Excuse my lack of knowledge in this area. My past RV’s have had propane refrigerators and much smaller inverters that powered the lights and TVs.
Thanks for any help!
